Canceled Black Cat Spider-Man Spin-off Movie Gets Cringeworthy Details

A new report claims the planned Spider-Man spin-off movie featuring Black Cat was considered very poor quality.

Black Cat is a character from Marvel Comics, first appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man #194 in 1979. Created by Marv Wolfman and Dave Cockrum, she’s known as Felicia Hardy. Initially, she was an enemy of Spider-Man, but she’s now often portrayed as an antihero, and has a frequent romantic connection with Peter Parker.

What are the new details about the canceled Black Cat spin-off movie?

According to recent reports from industry insider Daniel Richtman, Sony is now more willing to collaborate with Marvel Studios and potentially share characters from the Spider-Man universe. While Sony still owns the rights to Spider-Man and related characters, they currently have an agreement allowing Spider-Man to appear in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The Twitter account Nerd Tower shared news and rumors about a Black Cat movie that Sony Pictures had started developing as part of its Spider-Man Universe.

According to a recent post (translated from Portuguese), storyboards for a canceled Black Cat movie showed the character at a costume party dressed in goth attire. The storyboards depicted her breaking down in the bathroom, smudging her makeup, and then transforming into Black Cat – a sequence the author described as “awful.” They are now attempting to retrieve the storyboards to create a video about the abandoned film project.

Others shared the post and said that they have similarly heard this is true.

This new project appears to be separate from the previously planned “Silver & Black” movie starring Black Cat and Silver Sable. That film, which was being developed by Sony Pictures, was officially canceled in 2018. Afterward, there was discussion of creating a solo Black Cat movie, so it’s possible some of those concepts are connected to this recent announcement. However, it’s unknown how much progress was made on that idea. Sony also considered adapting “Silver & Black” as a television series.
