Bruce Campbell, the famous actor known for his roles in films and television, recently shared an honest update about his health following a cancer diagnosis. He revealed details in a post on Instagram, stating:
I’ve been dealing with a health issue, and people are calling it an ‘opportunity,’ so I’m trying to look at it that way. It’s a type of cancer that doctors can treat, but not necessarily cure. I’m sorry if this comes as a surprise – it was surprising to me as well.
I won’t be sharing any further details, but I wanted to let everyone know that I need to prioritize my health. That means stepping back from public appearances, conventions, and work for the time being to focus on treatment. My goal is to recover this summer so I can promote my new film, Ernie & Emma, this fall.
I was really bummed to hear that Neil Campbell is going to miss a few conventions this year. He explained he needs to focus on his treatment right now. But he ended on a positive note, saying he’s strong, has amazing support, and fully expects to be around for a long time, which is such a relief to hear!
Bruce Campbell, born in Royal Oak, Michigan in 1958, became close friends with Sam Raimi during high school. He also developed working relationships with Ted Raimi, Josh Becker, and Scott Spiegel. Campbell first appeared in a film directed by Raimi in 1977 with It’s Murder!
Bruce Campbell’s career continued to flourish, with memorable roles in more films directed by Sam Raimi, including Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness, and Crimewave. He quickly became a popular character actor, known for his distinctive charm, appearing in featured and cameo roles in films like Spider-Man. He also starred in a variety of successful genre films, from Bubba Ho-Tep to Sky High and Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat.
It’s no surprise that after five decades of acting, Bruce Campbell is most known for his work in the Evil Dead franchise. His character, Ash Williams, has become a beloved icon in horror, right up there with Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger. Campbell even returned to play Ash in a recent series, where he also helped produce the show.
Bruce Campbell fans have even more to look forward to! The actor is set to return to the Evil Dead universe in both Evil Dead Burn and Evil Dead Wrath. While it’s likely he’ll appear in brief cameos, details will be revealed soon.
