The fourth season of Bridgerton premiered on January 28th, focusing on Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and his blossoming romance with new character Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha). The season also introduces new developments in Queen Charlotte’s (Golda Rosheuvel) story, leading to speculation about Lady Danbury’s (Adjoa Andoh) future on the show.
Agatha Danbury, a longtime attendant to the queen, will be spending some time away from London this season. Despite rumors suggesting Adjoa Andoh might be leaving Bridgerton, showrunner Jess Brownell told Deadline this isn’t the case. Instead, the storyline will focus on the shifting dynamics and power imbalance within the friendship between Queen Charlotte and Lady Danbury, which fits with the season’s overall themes.
This season, we’re exploring the dynamics between those who serve and their employers,” explains Brownell. This is central to the main love story, as Sophie finds herself working as a maid despite being the illegitimate daughter of an earl, creating complications with her feelings for Benedict. However, Brownell confirms that Danbury will still play a significant role in Season 5.

Let me be clear: Adjoa will continue to be a part of the story in Season 5. We’re focusing on the complexities of friendships where one person has more power than the other, which fits with this season’s theme of relationships between those who serve and those they serve. The Queen and Lady Danbury are friends, but their differing power levels created a chance to explore what happens when Lady Danbury prioritizes her own needs, adding a new layer to their bond.
Lady Danbury is now a fan favorite on Bridgerton. She’s close friends with Violet Bridgerton and has become a mother figure to the whole family. She helped raise Daphne’s husband, Simon, and even welcomed the Sharma family before Kate’s marriage to Anthony.
Fans have received more updates about Bridgerton seasons 5 and 6, beyond just the confirmation that Lady Danbury will appear. The showrunner has already revealed that Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and Francesca (Hannah Dodd) will take center stage in the next two seasons, though it’s still unclear which of their stories will be featured first. Both actresses are returning for the current season.
Lady Danbury might be key to finding love for both Eloise and Francesca. Interestingly, in the books, her grandson ends up marrying Hyacinth Bridgerton, the youngest of the family. Even if she has a smaller part in future seasons, like Anthony and Kate this season, viewers always enjoy seeing Lady Danbury on screen.
