Be warned: this article reveals major plot points from the second part of Bridgerton season 4. Fans are already wondering what will happen in season 5, and the season 4 finale delivered a happy ending for Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha). The full second part of season 4 became available in February 2026.
Netflix’s popular romance drama, Bridgerton, is based on Julia Quinn’s novels. Each season focuses on a different Bridgerton sibling finding love. With Daphne, Anthony, Colin, and Benedict already finding their partners, fans are eager to know which sibling will marry next and how many seasons the show will continue.
Netflix Has Renewed Bridgerton For Seasons 5 & 6

Netflix is known for canceling shows, so fans often worry about their favorites. But viewers of Bridgerton can rest assured—the popular Regency-era romance has been renewed for both seasons 5 and 6, as announced in May 2025.
The announcement is not surprising, but definitely good news. Since the show is based on a series of eight books, Bridgerton naturally has the potential for eight seasons. Given its popularity on Netflix, it’s likely the streaming service will approve seasons seven and eight as well, allowing each Bridgerton sibling to find love on screen.
Which Book Is Bridgerton Season 5 Adapting?
LIAM DANIEL/NETFLIX
Now that the announcement of Bridgerton season 5 isn’t a surprise, the important question is what the season will cover. The first two seasons of the Netflix series closely followed the order of Julia Quinn’s novels, with season one adapting The Duke and I (Daphne’s story) and season two focusing on Anthony’s, as told in The Viscount Who Loved Me.
The popular show made a change for its third and fourth seasons. While Benedict’s story came third in the original book series, the showrunners decided to focus on the strong connection between Colin and Penelope first. They adapted Colin’s story earlier than expected, and then moved on to Benedict’s for the fourth season.
As a huge fan of Bridgerton, I’m already thinking about Season 5! If they stick to the book order, it looks like we’ll be getting Eloise’s story, which is To Sir Phillip, With Love. It’s a bit complicated though – in the book, she falls for Sir Phillip Crane, who’s Marina Thompson’s widower. We’ve met Sir Phillip on the show, but Eloise and he haven’t actually crossed paths yet, and Marina is still around! So the writers would have some work to do to set that up. Still, after seeing Eloise start to rethink her feelings about marriage in Season 4, I’m excited to see where they take her story – anything could happen!
Based on the dramatic events in the second half of Bridgerton season 4, it seems likely that Francesca (Hannah Dodd) will be the central focus of season 5. While season 4 begins with Francesca happily married to John Stirling (Victor Alli), tragedy strikes when John unexpectedly passes away, leaving Francesca a young widow.
She finds support in John’s sister, Michaela (played by Masali Baduza), but when there’s a hint of a romantic connection, Michaela abruptly leaves without explanation. Viewers will recognize that this character has been gender-swapped from the books, where Michael Stirling is Francesca Bridgerton’s love interest in the sixth novel, When He Was Wicked.
We don’t yet know whether Eloise or Francesca’s story will be featured first in the upcoming seasons of Bridgerton, but seasons 5 and 6 will definitely focus on them as the main characters. At the season 4 premiere, the show’s creator, Jess Brownell, hinted at this by wearing pocket squares with the initials “E” and “F”.
Brownell revealed to Deadline that the characters represented by the initials on his pocket squares will each have dedicated storylines in seasons five and six. He remained tight-lipped about the order in which these storylines will unfold, stating, “I can’t say.” Unless someone figures out the puzzle beforehand, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
Bridgerton Season 5 Cast Details

Now that Eloise and Francesca have been announced as the leads in seasons five and six of Bridgerton, Claudia Jessie and Hannah Dodd will definitely be back. The rest of the Bridgerton family – excluding Daphne, whose actress Phoebe Dynevor has moved on – will also return, along with their partners and their mother, Violet Bridgerton, played by Ruth Gemmell.
Despite leaving the Queen’s court in season 4, Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) will continue to be a part of the Bridgerton universe in season 5, according to creator Jess Brownell. Additionally, Alice Mondrich (Emma Naomi), the Queen’s new lady-in-waiting, and her husband, Will (Martins Imhangbe), are also expected to return.
| Bridgerton Cast Members Expected to Return in Season 5 | |
|---|---|
| Adjoa Andoh | Lady Danbury |
| Julie Andrews | The voice of Lady Whistledown |
| Lorraine Ashbourne | Mrs. Varley |
| Simone Ashley | Kate Bridgerton |
| Masali Baduza | Michaela Stirling |
| Jonathan Bailey | Anthony Bridgerton |
| Nicola Coughlan | Penelope Bridgerton |
| Hannah Dodd | Francesca Stirling |
| Daniel Francis | Lord Marcus Anderson |

| Florence Hunt | Hyacinth Bridgerton |
| Martins Imhangbe | Will Mondrich |

| Luke Newton | Colin Bridgerton |
| Golda Rosheuvel | Queen Charlotte |
| Will Tilston | Gregory Bridgerton |
| Luke Thompson | Benedict Bridgerton |
| Polly Walker | Portia Featherington |
| Hugh Sachs | Brimsley |
The show wouldn’t be complete without key characters like Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel), Brimsley (Hugh Sachs), Portia Featherington (Polly Walker), Mrs. Varley (Lorraine Ashbourne), and the narrator, Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews). It’s uncertain if Lord Marcus Anderson (Daniel Francis) will return for season 5, as he and Violet ended their relationship in the season 4 finale.
Victor Alli, who played John Stirling, is the only main cast member from previous seasons of Bridgerton not anticipated to return, though he could appear in flashbacks or dreams. If season 5 focuses on Eloise or Francesca’s story, we’ll likely see Chris Fulton as Phillip Crane and/or Masali Baduza as Michaela Stirling.
Will Bridgerton Season 5 Release In 2027?
LIAM DANIEL/NETFLIX
We don’t have a confirmed release date for Bridgerton season 5 yet, but we can make an educated guess based on the show’s usual filming and release timeline. According to What’s On Netflix, filming for season 5 is scheduled to begin in the UK in March 2026, which gives us a starting point for predicting when it might be released.
According to reports, filming one season of Bridgerton usually takes about eight months. If season five begins production as scheduled, it should be finished around November 2026. After filming, several more months are needed for editing and other post-production work. This suggests Bridgerton season five might be released as early as Spring 2027, but it could be delayed further. However, based on what we’ve heard, the new season promises to be well worth the wait.
