
Fans of Harry Bosch have more to look forward to! Titus Welliver, who famously played the detective in seven seasons of Bosch and then continued the role for three seasons of Bosch: Legacy, is returning for Season 2 of the spin-off Ballard. While details about his role are still under wraps, the announcement confirms that the new season is expected to arrive later this year. It seems both Welliver and viewers can’t get enough of the character!
News from Deadline revealed Benjamin Bratt has been cast in Ballard, and hinted at a release date. While it’s early in 2026, meaning fans may have a bit of a wait, it’s good to know we’ll likely see more of the Bosch universe before 2027.
The second season of Ballard will center on Maggie Q as LAPD Detective Renée Ballard, who heads a financially struggling cold-case unit. The new season’s cast also includes Ever Carradine, Courtney Taylor, Michael Mosley, Rebecca Field, Victoria Moroles, Amy Hill, and John Carroll Lynch.
‘Bosch’ Quietly Reigned Supreme Over Streaming
The TV series Bosch is a bit like a shared dream – it feels familiar, yet many people haven’t really noticed it. It first appeared in 2014, when streaming services like Prime Video were becoming popular, but hadn’t yet taken over entertainment. Though it often competed for attention with big hits like Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, Bosch had a strong foundation thanks to the widely loved novels by Michael Connelly.
Although Bosch wasn’t always a mainstream hit, it held enough appeal to run for seven seasons and launch several spin-offs. Remarkably, every season after the first received a 100% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, though the first season scored a very good 84%. It’s worth noting that by Season 7, the critic score was based on only eight reviews, suggesting that interest wasn’t overwhelming.

Both Bosch: Legacy (all three seasons) and the first season of Ballard received perfect scores from critics. However, despite critical praise and a dedicated audience, the show never achieved the status of a “prestige TV” series. Though consistently well-reviewed and with Titus Welliver frequently lauded for his portrayal of Detective Bosch, the show only earned one Emmy nomination – for Outstanding Main Title Design – which it didn’t win, losing to Manhattan.
