A brand-new special is officially on the way. It will even arrive just in time for the Holidays.
At San Diego Comic-Con, Loren Bouchard, the creator and executive producer of Bob’s Burgers, announced a new holiday short. It will be available on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally later this year. Titled “On the Fort Day of Christmas,” the special centers around a massive snowstorm hitting Seymour’s Bay, inspiring the Belcher kids to build an epic snow fort.
The Upcoming Bob’s Burgers Special Marks a Surprising First for the Series
Even though Bob’s Burgers is known for its holiday episodes, “On the Fort Day of Christmas” was the first one created specifically for streaming. It’s interesting that it took the show so long to do this – after many seasons – while similar animated series like Family Guy and The Simpsons have been successfully releasing streaming specials for a while now.
Everyone is excited for Season 17 of Bob’s Burgers, which is scheduled to arrive around mid-2027. Like Season 16, it will have 15 episodes. Although this is fewer episodes than fans used to get before the show took a break in 2025, shorter seasons are now common for animated comedies these days.
Bob’s Burgers Is About to Come Back from Near-Tragedy
Season 17 of Bob’s Burgers will feature the show’s well-known voice actors. Earlier this year, Eugene Mirman, the voice of Gene Belcher, was seriously injured in a car accident. The crash happened in Bedford, New Hampshire, when his car hit a toll plaza and caught fire. A state trooper was able to rescue Mirman from the vehicle before it was engulfed in flames.
I was so worried to hear about Eugene’s car accident – it sounded really frightening. He asked me to share that he’s incredibly thankful for everyone who helped him – the people who rushed to the scene, the state police, the first responders, and all the amazing hospital staff. He’s doing better now and is focusing on getting well, and we’re all hoping you’ll respect his and his family’s privacy during his recovery.
In June, Mirman discussed the incident, admitting he had no memory of what happened and wasn’t sure he even wanted one. He explained that reliving it wouldn’t be helpful. Mirman also spoke about the loss of his first wife, Katie Westfall Tharp, to cancer, saying he didn’t need another painful reminder of life’s fragility and beauty.
The new movie “Fort Day of Christmas” will be available to stream on both Hulu and Disney+ during the holidays.
