Bluey Beats Grey’s Anatomy as 2025’s Most-Streamed TV Show

Viewers have chosen a show other than for their favorite program of 2025. Despite its popularity, has faced strong competition from the animated series Bluey, which topped the list as the most-streamed show last year.

In 2025, the most-watched show on streaming was a hit, racking up 45.2 billion minutes of viewing time on Disney+ in the US, according to Nielsen data. While Grey’s Anatomy—available on Hulu and Netflix—was also popular, it trailed behind with 40.9 billion minutes watched during the same timeframe.

In 2024, Bluey was the most-watched show, racking up over 55.6 billion minutes of viewing time. Grey’s Anatomy came in second with 47.85 billion minutes watched, according to the latest rankings.

It’s remarkable how well Bluey is doing on streaming, especially since it has fewer and much shorter episodes compared to shows like Grey’s Anatomy. Grey’s Anatomy has over 450 episodes that are around 43 minutes long, while Bluey has only 154 episodes across three seasons, most lasting just 7 to 9 minutes.

Even though Bluey and Grey’s Anatomy have very different audiences, both shows were more popular than Stranger Things, NCIS, and SpongeBob SquarePants. Nielsen’s data shows those shows earned third, fourth, and fifth place, with 39.9, 36.9, and 34.3 billion minutes watched, respectively. While Stranger Things came in third, it was the only show besides Bluey and Grey’s Anatomy to make the top ten.

Creator Shonda Rhimes Recognizes The Important Legacy of Grey’s Anatomy

Even though Grey’s Anatomy hasn’t been as popular on streaming as Bluey for the past two years, the show has a lasting impact that goes beyond just numbers. In 2021, Ellen Pompeo, who starred in Grey’s Anatomy, shared her hope that the show will be remembered for the positive difference it made in the lives of its viewers, and maybe even for helping them through difficult times.

LeAnn Rimes shared with Variety how meaningful it is to her that her show has inspired so many women to become doctors. She also expressed amazement at the number of people who’ve told her they learned CPR or realized they were having a heart attack thanks to something they saw on the program.

Shonda Rhimes believes Grey’s Anatomy‘s most lasting impact will be its groundbreaking casting choices, bringing more diversity to television. She explained that the show created opportunities for actors of color, something that was previously lacking, and she felt “embarrassed” by the limited representation on TV before the show’s debut. The series, featuring actors like Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., and Isaiah Washington as doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, helped change that.

Rhimes admitted it might sound boastful, but she felt genuinely sad to point out that her show was a turning point. “We changed who you see represented on TV, and it’s frustrating that it took so long for that to happen,” she explained.

As a long-time viewer of Grey’s Anatomy, it’s great to see some familiar faces still around for season 22! Alongside the core group – Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., and Ellen Pompeo – we’ve also got Kevin McKidd, Caterina Scorsone, and Camilla Luddington continuing their roles, which really provides a solid foundation for the show.

Grey’s Anatomy is available to watch on both Hulu and Netflix.
