Danny Reagan has moved from New York City to Boston for the Blue Bloods spinoff. Along with the change in location, his son Sean is now being played by a different actor.
Andrew Terraciano was a consistent presence on Blue Bloods, portraying Sean Reagan throughout the show’s entire 14-season run, appearing in nearly 300 episodes from 2010 to 2024. When CBS developed the spin-off Boston Blue, a different actor, Mika Amonsen, took over the role. However, Terraciano recently told Us Weekly he’d be eager to join Boston Blue in any capacity, even if it meant playing a completely new character.
Terraciano told Us Weekly that he’s fully supportive of Donnie Wahlberg and will help in any way he can. He said if Wahlberg asks, he’ll be there – not just for projects like Blue Bloods or Boston Blue, but for anything at all. He shared this sentiment with the magazine earlier this month, expressing his backing for Amonsen to take on the role.
Playing Sean was a real gift, and I loved bringing him to life for audiences. Now, another actor gets to do the same – it’s exciting that we both get to put our own spin on the character and then let him go out there for everyone to enjoy.
I was reading an interview with Brandon Margolis, one of the producers on Boston Blue, and he said he’s totally on board with getting Joey Terraciano involved in a potential spinoff! He actually said it’s a really smart idea and that Donnie Wahlberg would probably love it too, because Donnie’s always trying to sneak in references to New Kids on the Block anyway.
The executive producer explained that they’re always open to considering strong concepts if the chance arises.
Boston Blue Tells a New Chapter for the Reagans
Originally conceived as its own show, Boston Blue was changed into a spinoff of Blue Bloods at the network CBS’s request. The story centers on both Donnie Wahlberg’s character, Danny Reagan, and his son, Sean. When a hiring freeze impacts the NYPD, Sean transfers to Boston to work as a patrol officer, and Danny later joins the Boston Police Department following a case involving his son.
Danny teams up with Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green, who is quickly becoming a prominent figure in the Boston Police Department. Like Blue Bloods, the show centers on a family, but instead of the Reagans, we follow the Silvers. Lena’s family includes her grandfather, Reverend Peters, and her mother, Boston’s District Attorney Mae Silver, played by Ernie Hudson and Gloria Reuben. Maggie Lawson and Marcus Scribner play Lena’s stepsister Sarah and half-brother Jonah.
If Tony Terraciano joins the cast of Boston Blue, he’d be the fourth actor from Blue Bloods to return. Mark Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan (as Erin Reagan), and Marisa Ramirez (as Maria Baez) have already reprised their roles. It’s still uncertain whether former Blue Bloods star Tom Selleck will make an appearance, but Wahlberg mentioned back in October that discussions about his involvement were ongoing.
I just heard that Boston Blue is taking a break after its ninth episode, “Collateral Damage,” airs on CBS this December 19th. It looks like we won’t get new episodes until February 2026! It’s a long wait, but hopefully it’ll be worth it.
