The franchise remains successful for CBS and Paramount+. Though the original series with Mark Wahlberg ended nearly a year ago, the story of the Reagan family continues with a new spinoff. Donnie Wahlberg heads up a talented cast including actors from Star Trek and Ghostbusters, and the premiere episode is already gaining traction on streaming platforms.
According to FlixPatrol, the new series Boston Blue has quickly become popular on Paramount+, reaching Number 6 in the U.S. charts. This happened less than a week after the first episode aired on October 17th. Many fans of Blue Bloods are tuning in to watch Donnie Wahlberg reprise his role as Danny Reagan, now set in Boston.
Who Joins Donnie Wahlberg on the Blue Bloods Spinoff Boston Blue?
Donnie Wahlberg stars in Boston Blue, joined by Sonequa Martin-Green (known from Star Trek: Discovery) and Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters). The show follows NYPD Detective Danny Reagan (Wahlberg) as he transfers to the Boston Police Department and teams up with Detective Lena Silver (Martin-Green), who also comes from a family with a strong history in law enforcement.
The Silver family consists of Boston Police Superintendent Sarah Silver, played by Maggie Lawson, District Attorney Mae Silver, played by Gloria Reuben, new police officer Jonah Silver, played by Marcus Scribner, and Reverend Edwin Peters, played by Hudson.
Reverend Peters is the father of Mae and the grandfather of Lena. Mae is considered the head of the Silver family; she’s Lena’s mother and Sarah’s stepmother. Lena also has a younger brother named Jonah, who is Mae’s son.
Several actors from Blue Bloods will also appear on Boston Blue. Mika Amonsen will play Sean Reagan, Danny’s son, who is moving to Boston to become a police officer—a role previously held by Andrew Terraciano. Additionally, Danny’s sister, the Assistant District Attorney from New York County, will also be featured.
Currently, Erin Regan is only confirmed to appear in the first episode, but she might come back in later episodes.
Donnie Wahlberg hinted that the first episode of the new series will be very surprising, with unexpected twists. Speaking on the Boston radio show Billy & Lisa in the Morning, he explained they aim to honor the legacy of Blue Bloods while also exploring a wider range of stories from different police families across America. He also mentioned the show will allow his character, Danny, to experience new and challenging situations.
Boston Blue airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
