Bibbidi-Bobbidi Boutique Switches to Gender Neutral Costumes After Controversies

The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Magic Kingdom has recently been updated in several ways—including prices, packages, the experience itself, and even what the Cast Members wear. For years, this popular spot has offered magical makeovers, turning young guests into their favorite Disney princesses, knights, or princes.

However, many fans believe Disney’s recent changes have made the park less magical. These updates might also be Disney’s response to online criticism the park received recently.

Changes to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique Offerings

Before the updates in early October 2025, prices at the Boutique varied from $19.95 to $450 for the most luxurious Princess Signature Dress package. Guests had several options for makeovers and could select different package levels.

Disney has simplified its package options to just three, but these now cost more than the previous choices.

A Costume Change Sparks Questions

The Fairy Godmother Apprentices (previously called Fairy Godmothers-in-Training) have a new look. They used to wear colorful blue and purple dresses that fit the fairytale atmosphere around Cinderella Castle. Now, they wear a more basic outfit: a white shirt, light blue vest, and blue pants.

Guests have widely criticized the recent changes, describing the new look as dull and lacking the special, enchanting feeling it once had. Disney hasn’t said why the changes were made, but some believe it’s connected to issues that happened at Disneyland in 2023.

Disneyland’s Bibbidi Bobbidi Controversy

In August 2023, someone on X (formerly Twitter) shared a picture of a male Disney employee with facial hair who was costumed as a Fairy Godmother Apprentice at a Disneyland store.

Disney has bearded men in dresses working at the park now.

“AKA” captioned the post: “Disney has bearded men in dresses working at the park now.”

The post quickly became very popular, gaining over a million views. While some people applauded Disney for trying to be more inclusive, others worried that the company was sharing confusing ideas with children.

Disney recently made some subtle changes to its costume rules. The new costumes available at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique seem designed for anyone, possibly to avoid disagreements about how Cast Members dress.

Experience Now Spread Across Three Areas

The Boutique remains closed at both the Grand Floridian and Disney Springs with no plans to reopen yet. However, the location in Magic Kingdom has expanded to now fill three different sections inside Cinderella Castle.

  1. Check-in behind Cinderella Castle
  2. Styling inside the castle and a second location in Fantasyland
  3. Post-makeover photos and meet-and-greet with the Fairy Godmother

The My Disney Experience app states that character appearances can change unexpectedly, meaning there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to meet the Fairy Godmother.

A Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo Boo?

It’s understandable to wonder if the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is becoming less popular. Prices have gone up, there are fewer choices for packages, the costumes are simpler, and two locations are still closed. It used to be very difficult to get a reservation, but on July 4, 2025, we found same-day appointments were available – something that never happened before. We even confirmed this with a Cast Member during our recent visit.

With increasing prices at the parks, extra costs for quicker access, and a recent makeover experience that many feel lacks the charm it once had, the popular Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is at risk of losing fans among families hoping to have a magical time at Disney World.
