Bella Shepard has shared some clues about what fans can expect for her character, Genesis Lythe, in the second season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. The first season of the show, which has received positive reviews, is almost over and the finale will be available on Paramount+ on March 12th. Currently, filming for season 2 is wrapping up in Toronto, Canada.
In Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, Bella Shepard plays Genesis Lythe, the first person of her species, the Dar-Sha, to join Starfleet. The show is gradually showing what makes the Dar-Sha unique, such as Genesis’ incredibly sharp vision. As the daughter of a Starfleet Admiral, Genesis quickly proved herself to be a highly capable leader among her classmates, but she’s also known for being a caring and supportive friend.
I just read a really interesting interview with Bella Shepard over at ScreenRant! She gave us a little sneak peek at what we can expect for her character, Genesis, in season two of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Apparently, the new season will follow the cadets as they start their second year at the academy, this time based in San Francisco. Here’s what Bella had to say:
Wow, sophomore year has been amazing! It’s definitely been more intense and wild than freshman year, but in a really good way – it feels so freeing and like I’m really growing. I’m especially thrilled about what happens with Genesis this season. Her journey is beautiful, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it!
Genesis is considered one of the best new students at Starfleet Academy, but her ambition to become a Captain is complicated by her own anxieties. In the seventh episode of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, Genesis tries to remove her recommendation letters after admitting she changed them when she first applied.
Captain Nahla Ake (Holly Hunter) had intended to nominate Genesis for a special Starfleet Academy program, but that changed when Genesis was caught hacking into the system. While Captain Ake didn’t expel Genesis—the first Dar-Sha cadet at the Academy—Genesis now faces a serious issue on her otherwise impressive Starfleet record.
Despite a past error, Genesis remains a highly motivated, ambitious, and intelligent officer. She’s a natural Starfleet leader, excelling both as captain of the Calica team at Starfleet Academy and as a valuable member of the USS Athena’s crew. Many believe it’s only a matter of time before Genesis Lythe commands her own starship.
The rest of the first season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will focus on Genesis learning from her mistake and getting back on track. According to Bella Shepard, Genesis’s journey as a cadet will take some interesting directions in season 2 of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, which is expected to premiere on Paramount+ in 2027.
