Beck Bennett is highly admired, as Sarah Sherman made clear to us. Last month, she announced that Bennett, an alumnus of Saturday Night Live, is “everybody’s favorite,” and praised how much the staff at 30 Rock cherish him. Recently, the actor known for playing Superman shared his reaction to discovering her statement, expressing a tender reason behind his “deeply emotional response.
To provide a fresh perspective, let me rephrase that for you: Beck Bennett departed from SNL following Season 46 in the year 2021. Sarah Sherman took over at the onset of Season 47. Since they didn’t cross paths during their tenure, she had only heard stories about him and his popularity among the cast. However, when they finally met during the SNL 50 celebration (available for streaming with a Peacock subscription), Sarah realized why everyone was so enthusiastic about him. As she expressed on the Good One podcast, upon meeting the actor from DuckTales, she quickly understood why he was considered “a hoot” and everyone’s favorite.
Initially, the comedian expressed his affection by posting a straightforward “I love you” message on his Instagram story. Later, as he promotes the upcoming Superman film in 2025, he had an opportunity to delve into his complete response to her praise during an interview with Nerdist, detailing his initial feelings.
It’s confirmed. It’s undeniable. That’s indisputable. I did witness it, I couldn’t wrap my head around it. I had a particularly difficult day, and then my wife shared that with me, and I was just floored – I couldn’t believe it.

Enjoy Peacock TV for as low as $7.99 a month or $79.99 annually! This streaming platform offers a wealth of beloved shows like Saturday Night Live and all Law & Order series, not to mention current content from NBC, Bravo, and other networks. Don’t miss out on the deal!
As a movie-goer penning my thoughts, let me tell you, this film’s dialogue hit home like a tender punch on a particularly challenging day. The heartfelt praise bestowed upon the characters stirred emotions within me, making any given day seem worthy of such a profound compliment. Yet, it was in a moment when the character, Sherman, seemed to be in need of encouragement that this heartfelt sentiment was shared, adding an extra layer of meaning and resonance. Consequently, I can empathize with his emotional response.
Additionally, he explained the situation at SNL during the period he departed and she arrived. He mentioned that he was the sole individual who left between seasons, which is where the humor and irony stem from.
She arrived a year following my departure. Being the sole cast member to depart, it was ideal in a sense – everyone would notice and celebrate me more if I were the only one stepping down from SNL. It wouldn’t be as special if multiple adored cast members were leaving simultaneously, because they might not have even noticed that I had left.
In fact, it’s important to clarify a detail about Bennett’s statement – Lauren Holt, the featured player, did not return after Season 46 just like him. However, Bennett is correct that he was the only long-standing cast member to leave during that season, as Lauren had been on the show for only one season compared to his eight years. Therefore, his departure was indeed a significant event.
To provide a bit more context, Sherman made his debut on the NBC show alongside several cast members who had previously worked extensively with Bennett. This group included Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson, Mikey Day, Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, Alex Moffat, Kyle Mooney, and Kenan Thompson, who is the longest-running SNL cast member. Given SNL’s history of exceptional ensembles and the sheer talent of this particular group, it’s easy to understand why Bennett was so impressed by Sherman’s compliment, as he emphasized again and again.
But yeah, I just could not believe it.
I find this tale incredibly joyful, and I sincerely hope that Beck Bennett and Sarah Sherman can collaborate on something someday. Unfortunately, as of now, there are no plans for them to work together. However, who knows what the future holds? Their evident respect and admiration for each other, coupled with their shared talent for humor, makes me optimistic that they may team up in the future.
Right now, I’m excited to catch Beck Bennett on the big screen in “Superman,” currently playing in cinemas near you. Don’t forget to keep an eye on your TV schedules for the 2025 lineup of Saturday Night Live (SNL), as details about Season 51 and its anticipated cast, including Sarah Sherman, should be revealed soon!
