Okay, so I’m really excited about the new Batman look! He’s rocking a red and gray suit, which is a huge departure from the usual dark and brooding vibe. Honestly, I love that DC is willing to experiment with such an iconic character. Let’s be real, everyone always has opinions about what Batman should look like with every new movie or show, so why not have some fun and shake things up? It’s great to see them playing with his image, especially since he’s their biggest hero.
As filming for The Batman – Part II begins, expect discussions to start about the story, characters, and costumes as details are revealed. But even before that, a new Batman release is already getting people talking about Bruce Wayne’s appearance, specifically a distinctive costume he’s wearing.
Batman Debuts A New Red And Gray Suit In His New Appearance
Both Batman: The Animated Series and Batman: Caped Crusader have successfully broadened the Batman story beyond comics and movies. Recently, acclaimed actor Ethan Hawke joined the franchise, providing the voice for Batman in the animated series Batwheels. Now in its third season and available on HBO Max, Batwheels is currently taking the story in an unexpected direction.
In the ninth episode of Batwheels season 3, titled “Batdraft,” which premiered on HBO Max on February 6th, Batman wears a special firefighter suit designed to look like his Dark Knight costume. The suit features a large bat symbol with a yellow oval on the chest. He uses it to extinguish a magical fire at Poison Ivy’s fortress.
Why Batwheels’ New Batsuit Is Exactly What DC Should Be Doing
The bright red and gray Batsuit from Batwheels wouldn’t fit in a live-action Batman film. While the colorful design works for a Batman aimed at kids, most longtime fans wouldn’t accept the hero looking like a firefighter. This kind of thing could work for other characters – Andrew Garfield wearing a firefighter helmet is a memorable scene from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – but it just wouldn’t work for Batman.
It’s clear audiences prefer a darker, more realistic Batman. Reviews and box office numbers consistently show they’re more drawn to serious portrayals of the character than lighter, more comedic ones, like the one George Clooney delivered in Batman & Robin. Even with fantastical elements, as we expect in James Gunn’s new DC Universe, Batman needs to be portrayed with seriousness in live-action films.
With that in mind, the Batman animated series should definitely explore fun, unexpected looks like Batman in a firefighter suit, and other creative themes. Animation allows DC to take more risks and add colorful elements without alienating core Batman fans. Considering Batwheels is already geared towards a younger audience, the main Batman series is the ideal place to try out these new ideas.
