Avengers: Secret Wars’ Setting Will Be Like 2 MCU Disney+ Shows — Report

A recent report about the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars movie suggests its setting will be similar to the worlds established in two Disney+ shows within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

During a recent Q&A session on The Cosmic Circus, Marvel scoop reporter Alex Perez discussed the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars storylines. When asked about The Defenders and New Guardians of the Galaxy, Perez indicated that neither team is likely to appear in Secret Wars unless they are shown as part of Doctor Doom’s inner circle.

Perez also shared that the story and world of Avengers: Secret Wars will feel similar to a blend of two popular Disney+ series.

What Disney+ shows have been compared to Avengers: Secret Wars?

According to writer Al Ewing, almost everyone in the upcoming ‘Secret Wars’ storyline will be under Doctor Doom’s control, living in a world resembling a medieval version of the reality Wanda created in ‘Westview’ from ‘WandaVision’. He describes it as a blend of ‘WandaVision’ and the alternate history of ‘What If… The Avengers Assembled in 1602’, and that’s how the story will begin.

In the Disney+ series WandaVision, Wanda Maximoff magically created a bubble called the Hex. This turned the town of Westview into a reality resembling a 1950s sitcom, and she effectively controlled everyone who lived there.

The eighth episode of What If…? season 2, titled “What If… the Avengers Assembled in 1602?”, features Captain Peggy Carter being transported to a version of reality set in the year 1602, populated by alternate versions of heroes and villains.

Before the big event, Avengers: Secret Wars, Marvel will release Avengers: Doomsday. This movie will see Robert Downey Jr. return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he’ll be playing the villain, Doctor Doom. A team consisting of the New Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, Avengers, and original X-Men will try to stop him. The story of Doomsday will directly set up the events of Secret Wars.

Okay, let’s talk cast. “Doomsday” really brings out the big guns, pulling together a ton of familiar faces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’re talking Chris Hemsworth back as Thor, Anthony Mackie stepping into the Captain America role as Sam Wilson, Tom Hiddleston’s mischievous Loki, and even Chris Evans reprising his role as Steve Rogers. It’s a real crowd-pleaser seeing these iconic heroes all together again.

I’m really excited about the upcoming Marvel films! The Russo Brothers, who I admire so much, are directing both ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’. I understand ‘Doomsday’ is already being polished in post-production, which is fantastic, and they’re starting to plan ‘Secret Wars’ now – it’s going to be a busy time for them, but I can’t wait to see what they create!

The movie Avengers: Doomsday is coming out on December 18, 2026, and Secret Wars will follow on December 17, 2027.
