It’s a new beginning for Avengers: Endgame.
Marvel Studios revealed plans today to re-release the hit movie Avengers: Endgame in cinemas in September 2026, before its next sequel arrives.
Released in April 2019, Avengers: Endgame rapidly became a massive hit, ranking among the most successful films ever made. As a sequel to 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, it brought the first eleven years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a thrilling conclusion. So far, the movie has earned $2.79 billion in theaters, making it the second-highest-grossing film of all time. Only James Cameron’s Avatar, with $2.92 billion worldwide, has earned more.
I was thrilled to see Marvel officially announce that Avengers: Endgame is coming back to theaters! They dropped the news with a cool video on their social media, and honestly, I’m already planning my re-watch.
Seven years after the release of Endgame, its sequel, now titled Avengers: Doomsday, is scheduled to hit theaters. Initially planned as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and centered around the character of Kang (played by Jonathan Majors), the film underwent significant changes after Majors’ dismissal following a conviction for assault and harassment. Marvel then brought back the directors of Endgame, Joe and Anthony Russo, and cast Robert Downey Jr. – best known as Iron Man – as the movie’s villain, Doctor Doom.
Similar to Endgame, Doomsday will bring together a huge cast of Marvel stars. Expect to see Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Simu Liu, Letitia Wright, Florence Pugh, the cast of the new Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts movies, and many familiar faces from the X-Men films originally produced by Fox.
You’ll be able to see Avengers: Endgame back in cinemas on September 25, 2026. Following that, Avengers: Doomsday will premiere in theaters on December 18, 2026.
The Best Performances in Marvel Movies

15. Jeff Goldblum, Thor: Ragnarok
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of characters who aren’t human. While it’s debatable whether someone like Thor counts as an alien, I think he does! But to me, the most convincingly alien character is Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster from Thor: Ragnarok. He’s just wonderfully strange, with his odd weapons, space DJ setup, and quirky way of saying “Asgard” – and his little chuckle after saying it is perfect. The way he explains time on Sakaar – “On any other world I’d be like millions of years old, but here…” – is a really brilliant moment.

14. Iman Vellani, The Marvels
The main reason The Marvels isn’t at the very bottom of my Marvel Cinematic Universe rankings is Iman Vellani, who is fantastic as Ms. Marvel. Her character gets connected to Captain Marvel and then embarks on a space adventure with her and Monica Rambeau. (Monica really needs a superhero name!) While the idea behind the movie is promising, the way it was made felt tiring and overly complicated, with the heroes constantly switching places because of their powers. Vellani, though, clearly enjoys herself, and in a film as chaotic as this one, that’s a real standout performance.

13. Stanley Tucci, Captain America: The First Avenger
The cast of Captain America: The First Avenger is fantastic, featuring Chris Evans as Steve Rogers alongside talents like Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, and Hayley Atwell. While many of the actors are exceptional, Stanley Tucci stands out as Dr. Erskine. He plays the scientist who creates the Super Soldier Serum and chooses Rogers for the experiment. Unlike many of the eccentric or outright villainous scientists in Marvel films, Erskine serves as a moral compass for the story, and potentially the entire Marvel Universe. His explanation of the difference between goodness and power is a particularly powerful and understated moment in the MCU.

12. Michael Peña, Ant-Man
The most memorable scenes in the first two Ant-Man movies aren’t about Ant-Man’s shrinking ability – they’re the lengthy, funny stories told by Michael Peña, who plays Scott Lang’s friend Luis. Peña’s fast-paced, detailed stories, acted out with lip-syncing from other characters, are consistently hilarious, and his overall performance is charming. The latest film, Quantumania, felt less enjoyable without him.

11. Sam Rockwell, Iron Man 2
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Sam Rockwell’s character, Justin Hammer, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – the last time was in a short film back in 2014. That’s a shame, because he was always a standout villain from the early days of the MCU, mostly thanks to Rockwell’s hilarious performance. The character was perfectly villainous with his terrible spray tan and silly dance moves! It’s time to bring Justin Hammer back!

10. Andrew Garfield, Spider-Man: No Way Home
Even though Marvel tried to keep it a secret, it wasn’t a huge shock when Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who previously played Spider-Man, appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The real surprise was how much they were actually in the movie. Garfield, especially, seemed eager to give his version of Peter Parker some resolution, as he never got to explore how Peter would have dealt with Gwen Stacy’s death in a third Amazing Spider-Man film. He brought all those unexpressed feelings to No Way Home. Seeing him save Zendaya’s MJ and then get so emotional – that was a truly great moment.

9. Hugh Jackman, Deadpool & Wolverine
Though Deadpool & Wolverine largely serves as a parody of superhero films – and itself – it features a standout performance from Hugh Jackman. Widely considered one of the greatest actors to appear in comic book movies, Jackman delivers a compelling and emotionally resonant portrayal of Logan, a character burdened by immortality and a troubled past. While it might not be his absolute best work as Wolverine – that honor likely still belongs to Logan – the fact that his performance feels genuine and heartfelt, rather than simply a way to make money, is remarkable.

8. Clark Gregg, The Avengers
While the superheroes grabbed headlines in the early days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson who truly stood out. He appeared in several films, acting as the relatable human connection that grounded the larger-than-life heroes. Coulson brought a welcome sense of normalcy and provided a familiar perspective for viewers. It’s no surprise Marvel chose him to lead their first television series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – even after his character’s death in The Avengers.

7. Tom Hiddleston, Thor
Tom Hiddleston consistently delivers excellent performances as Loki in the Marvel films. From his first appearance in 2011’s Thor, he brilliantly portrayed Loki’s complex personality – his mischievousness, envy, ambition, and deep-seated need for his father’s approval. He’s continued to develop the character wonderfully, repeatedly challenging his brother, Thor, and captivating audiences with each return.

6. John Brolin, Avengers: Infinity War
While Josh Brolin brought Thanos to life through his performance and voice, many others deserve credit for creating such a compelling villain. Visual effects artists were essential in shaping his appearance, and the script—which gave Thanos the power to eliminate half of all life in an attempt to save the rest—was incredibly important. The result was arguably Marvel’s greatest villain: terrifying, but also driven by surprisingly understandable motivations. Thanos’s actions weren’t justifiable, but his reasoning was certainly thought-provoking.

5. Chadwick Boseman, Black Panther
Marvel made the right decision not to replace Chadwick Boseman after his death in 2020 following a fight with colon cancer. He was irreplaceable as T’Challa, the noble king of Wakanda and the superhero Black Panther. Even with a talented supporting cast, Boseman powerfully anchored the film. While another actor may eventually play Black Panther, there will only ever be one T’Challa and one Chadwick Boseman.

4. Bradley Cooper, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Rocket Raccoon started as a minor character in Marvel comics, appearing in only ten issues over three decades. But thanks to the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, he transformed into a fan favorite and one of Marvel’s most emotionally complex heroes – his difficult past is even more heartbreaking than Spider-Man’s! A lot of Rocket’s appeal, even when he’s being prickly, comes from Bradley Cooper’s voice acting, which gives the character a surprising amount of depth and vulnerability. This is especially true in Guardians Vol. 3, where we learn about Rocket’s tragic origins and he becomes central to the entire story.

3. Florence Pugh, Thunderbolts*
Marvel’s success depends on discovering new actors to take over from its original stars. While losing Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow was difficult, Florence Pugh’s portrayal of Yelena has eased that transition. Pugh brings a lot of emotional depth to Yelena’s character, showing her growth from a troubled mercenary into the leader of a group of unconventional heroes. She also delivers the witty, sarcastic humor that’s become a trademark of Marvel movies.

2. Michael B. Jordan, Black Panther
Whenever Ryan Coogler directs and Michael B. Jordan stars, the results are usually fantastic. In Black Panther, Jordan plays the villain, Erik Killmonger, and he’s so captivating and his motivations are so understandable that you find yourself almost rooting for him, even as he tries to overthrow the king of Wakanda to get revenge. He makes the character, who insists on being called Erik, incredibly compelling.

1. Robert Downey Jr., Iron Man
It’s understandable to wonder: if Jon Favreau hadn’t successfully pushed for Robert Downey Jr. to play Tony Stark – something Marvel was initially hesitant about – would the first Iron Man movie even have worked? And if that film had failed, could it have stopped the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe before it began? Downey Jr. established the unique style of the MCU, using humor to mask a character with a troubled past as he transformed from a cynical businessman into a hero. Even now, long after Tony Stark’s death, Downey Jr.’s performance remains the standard by which all other MCU actors are judged.
