The first trailer for the new Avengers movie, Doomsday, is almost here and is already making history for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s expected to play in theaters before the movie Avatar: Fire and Ash, and will be released in less than two weeks. Although Marvel Studios hasn’t announced an official release date, details about the trailer are starting to emerge.
The runtime for the first trailer of Avengers: Doomsday has been revealed. According to the Korea Media Rating Board, the trailer will be 1 minute and 25 seconds long. This makes it one of the longest teaser trailers for a Marvel Cinematic Universe film, as most are shorter in length.
Avengers: Doomsday’s Trailer Runtime Is The Shortest For An Avengers Movie
Marvel Studios typically kicks off its Avengers movie marketing with a big preview showing lots of exciting footage. This has consistently led to the release of official trailers lasting over two minutes for each of the first four Avengers films, giving fans plenty to dissect and discuss.
Marvel released the first trailer for The Avengers on October 11, 2011, and it lasted 2 minutes and 5 seconds. The teaser for Avengers: Age of Ultron followed on October 22, 2014, running for 2 minutes and 17 seconds. The first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War debuted on November 27, 2017, with a length of 2 minutes and 25 seconds. Finally, the initial trailer for Avengers: Endgame, released on December 7, 2019, was 2 minutes and 26 seconds long.
The new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is significantly shorter than any previous Avengers trailer, clocking in at 40 seconds less than the next shortest one. It’s the shortest first trailer Marvel Studios has ever released for an Avengers film.
The one exception is the post-credits scene in Captain America: The First Avenger. It gave a sneak peek at The Avengers, but Marvel didn’t release it as a standalone trailer, choosing instead to wait three months for the official trailer’s debut. That scene was just 1 minute and 21 seconds long, four seconds shorter than the teaser for Doomdsay.
Why Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Being So Short Is Smart
The surprisingly short running time of this major Marvel movie might seem odd. Some believe that after a slow year for box office numbers, a more extensive trailer revealing more of the film – and boosting enthusiasm – would have been a better approach.
Releasing shorter episodes right now is a good strategy, especially with the release of Avengers: Doomsday still a year away. Marvel needs to balance giving fans new content with avoiding spoilers for the upcoming film. It’s better to offer a taste of what’s to come and create some excitement online than to reveal too much too soon.
A larger marketing push for Doomsday is planned following this initial preview. Disney and Marvel likely intend to release this teaser now, show a TV spot during the Super Bowl, and then attach the first official trailer to a major summer 2026 film, such as The Mandalorian & Grogu. They’ll likely release another full trailer later, keeping some major plot points and surprises under wraps for future promotional content.
Even though it’s short, the teaser trailer for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is exciting, especially because it finally reveals Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. If the trailer also shows new team pairings, action sequences, and confirms other returning characters, those 90 seconds will be packed with information.
