Next year, the highly anticipated Marvel movie Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theaters. It’s the first Avengers film since Endgame finished the Infinity Saga, and it’s generating a lot of excitement, especially with Robert Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom. Marvel is already starting to build hype a year in advance, including sneak peeks shown with Avatar: Fire and Ash. And everyone is talking about the baby featured in those teasers!
A recent preview has taken over the discussion online. The short clip shows a quick, surprising image of Steve Rogers as Captain America, holding a baby. This builds on a previously leaked scene and immediately sparks questions, especially since his story seemed to end in Endgame and Chris Evans wasn’t included in Marvel’s recent cast announcements. Whether it’s the original Steve Rogers, a version from another timeline, or something else, Marvel is clearly aiming to get fans buzzing – and it’s working.

Who The Baby Could Be: Comics vs. The MCU
The comic book version of Captain America has experienced many different lives across various timelines and realities, often including families and those he mentors. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) presented Steve Rogers choosing to remain in the past with Peggy Carter as a final, conclusive ending. That’s why the recent teaser trailer is so impactful. If the baby shown is indeed Steve’s child, it completely changes our understanding of the peaceful life he thought he had.
Comics frequently demonstrate this kind of adaptability. Steve Rogers, Captain America, doesn’t have a simple family history. In different versions of the story, his children and other descendants – like James Rogers, Steven Rogers Jr., Ellie Rogers, and Sarah Rogers (also known as Crusader) – have all taken on aspects of his legacy, either as direct successors or by forging their own paths.

Disney+ offers streaming access to Marvel Cinematic Universe content. You can subscribe for as little as $11.99 per month with ads. An ad-free plan costs $18.99 monthly, or you can save 16% by paying $189.99 for an annual subscription. See the deal here.
Some alternate timelines get really strange, featuring characters like Ian Zola, created by Arnim Zola’s experiments, or futures with multiple versions of Captain America – including twins and even descendants from alien races like St’vaan Jr. Disturbingly, some timelines even connect to Captain America’s arch-nemesis, the Red Skull, in ways similar to the Ultimate Marvel universe.
Steve Rogers has had children in the comics who’ve played many roles – heroes, symbols, subjects of experiments, and even warnings about what could go wrong. This history gives Marvel a lot of flexibility with how they handle this in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Showing Steve with a baby in Doomsday doesn’t force them to commit to one specific story; instead, it creates possibilities for multiple different paths they could take.

Fan Speculation Has Fully Taken Over
After the short preview was shown in cinemas, online discussion on X (formerly Twitter) went into overdrive. A detailed post by a user named @lakersspammer, going by the handle Doom’s Servant, quickly gained popularity. The post contained a supposed breakdown of rumors that sounded like something straight out of a Marvel fan’s imagination – or a surprisingly precise leak.
There’s a rumor circulating about a potential future storyline. Apparently, a scene from the first teaser takes place in the middle of the story, followed by a time jump (the exact number of years is unknown). We then see Steve Rogers much older, with a beard and long hair – similar to his look in Infinity War, but even more rugged. His children are grown up, likely between 10 and 15 years older, and his son, James, will be an adult by the end of the Secret Wars storyline. There’s also talk of a Captain America variant who is a daughter, and she wears a black tactical suit with a triangular shield featuring an eagle emblem.
That single post sparked a lot of discussion, and fans instantly began speculating about what Marvel might be planning.
- @itzduhArya_06: “So they’re doing Sharon Rogers?”
- @Avatar_TheAsh: “I was really hoping for the daughter to be Sharon Rodgers but now that you brought up the black suit I think the daughter will be Ellie Rodgers.”
- @SubhanKhan_157: “Can you describe Steve Rogers look the Nomad version suit/costume?”
- @hs4muel: “Makes sense act one established the threat by act one someone gonna realize someone ruined the timeline and I bet it’s either Bucky/Hulk that saids oh uh: then we get that clip from the first trailer”
- @themarvelsboy: “sharon rogers?”
- @RMH_MMA: “I’m honestly getting tired of all of the teenage superheroes.”
- @pumaboxer: “Source?”
It’s the usual conversation surrounding new superhero films. Now we’ll have to see if all the hype translates into big ticket sales.

Why Marvel Would Tease This Now
It’s unclear if the rumors are true, but the thinking behind them is clear. Steve Rogers represents the best of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and showing him as a father immediately changes how we see his story. It also adds a powerful personal element to what’s already expected to be a huge, complicated, and universe-spanning adventure.
This approach allows Marvel to hint at future changes without making any firm commitments. Just because a child or alternate version of a character appears doesn’t necessarily mean a new hero or a complete restart of a storyline. However, it opens up exciting possibilities, and Marvel excels at keeping things open-ended.
We’re still unsure about the parentage of the baby shown, the exact point in the Marvel timeline it represents, and how long Captain America will remain a factor. However, Marvel released a single image that brilliantly captured the attention of the internet, shifting the focus away from discussions about blue aliens and lengthy movie durations.
I’m so hyped for Avengers: Doomsday to finally come out on December 18, 2026! To get ready, I’m planning to rewatch all the Marvel movies in order – thankfully, I can do that easily with my Disney+ subscription.
