Avengers: Doomsday’s Latest Trailer Just Spoiled Doctor Doom’s Franklin Richards Twist According to Major MCU Theory

Marvel Studios may have hinted at how the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie will continue a storyline from The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The latest Fantastic Four film, released in 2025, introduced Franklin Richards, the son of Reed and Sue Richards. Though he appears to be a normal baby, the film establishes that Franklin possesses incredible cosmic powers – powers strong enough to even bring his mother, Sue Storm, back to life after she briefly died battling Galactus in New York City.

Four years after Galactus’s attack, the comic Fantastic Four: First Steps ended with a surprising scene: Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., came face-to-face with Franklin Richards inside the Baxter Building. This led many fans to believe Doom might have kidnapped the incredibly powerful child, either to steal his abilities or use them to his benefit in Avengers: Doomsday.

Some fans believe Franklin Richards’ kidnapping is why the Fantastic Four ended up on Earth-616 in Thunderbolts. They think the team might have been chasing Doctor Doom through different universes, or searching for assistance for the Avengers while he carried out his schemes. A popular idea is that Doctor Doom himself could be on the ship, either with the Fantastic Four or having taken control of it.

Okay, so the latest trailer for Avengers: Doomsday finally gave us our first glimpse of the Fantastic Four! It was just a quick shot of the Thing, played by Ebon Mass-Bachrach, but it was enough to get me hyped. It looks like they’re interacting with M’Baku and the Wakandans – Winston Duke is looking great as always – and it seems like the scene might be set in Wakanda itself. It’s exciting to see how these two universes are starting to collide!

When Thing and M’Baku first shook hands, their conversation was lighthearted and relaxed. There was no sense of panic or rush, and Thing even made a joke about living in New York.

What Is Franklin Richards’ Role in Avengers: Doomsday?

Before the events of Secret Wars, the storyline Time Runs Out revealed how Doctor Doom built Battleworld. He used the incredible powers of Molecule Man to drain the energy from the Beyonders – extremely powerful beings who exist beyond the entire Multiverse.

Rumors suggest Marvel Studios is swapping the Beyonders for God Loki in the upcoming Doomsday film, raising questions about how Loki’s power will be taken. With no sign of Molecule Man, it’s possible Doctor Doom will find a way to use Franklin Richards to steal Loki’s abilities, potentially leading into the Secret Wars storyline.

No matter what direction the Marvel Cinematic Universe takes, the recent introduction of Franklin Richards in The Fantastic Four establishes him as an incredibly powerful character. Given how quickly Marvel brought him into the story, it seems likely he’ll play a significant role in future Avengers films – specifically Avengers 5 and 6 – and potentially in other MCU projects as well.
