Be warned, this article contains minor spoilers for Marvel’s Wonder Man. A concerning theory about the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie is gaining traction thanks to a line of dialogue in Wonder Man. While the new series differs from typical superhero stories, it firmly establishes itself within the Marvel Cinematic Universe by including characters like Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley) and references to things like Rogers: The Musical. The show introduces several new characters, including Simon Williams (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), and one of them says something that hints at a potentially grim outcome for the heroes in Doomsday.
It’s easy to overlook this detail amidst all the hidden references in Wonder Man, especially since a minor character delivers the line. However, as Marvel fans know, even a small hint can become a major issue for the Avengers. In this case, the comment could connect Simon Williams to the events of Doomsday, though probably not in a way he’d appreciate.
The ‘Wonder Man’ Line That May Have Just Confirmed a Devastating ‘Doomsday’ Theory

Disney+
Episode 6, titled “Callback,” follows Simon and Trevor as they return to the home of director Von Kovak for in-person auditions with other actors for the movie Wonder Man. After a series of intense improvisational exercises and reading lines for the roles of Wonder Man and Barnaby, Simon and Trevor are taken aside by a director’s assistant. Assuming they didn’t get the parts, they’re shocked when Von Kovak personally tells them he wants Simon to play Wonder Man and Trevor to play Barnaby.
Both men are so thrilled that they don’t immediately grasp the significance of Kovak’s next statement: “We’re going to make the last movie on Earth…because no one else will have the courage to try.” While it’s not unusual for Kovak, the eccentric character on Wonder Man, to say strange things, this comment feels different. Considering Marvel’s biggest film of 2026 is titled Doomsday, and Wonder Man appears to be set within the current Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline, this statement is more than just a quirky remark – it’s a worrying sign.
What Von Kovak’s Line Could Mean for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
It’s unsettling to realize that Kovak’s statement came just weeks after Marvel released four short teasers during the run of Avatar: Fire and Ash. These teasers showed various heroes – including Captain America, Thor, Shuri, and Cyclops – facing deeply personal struggles. We saw Captain America with his newborn baby, Thor praying for his daughter’s safety, Shuri hinting at preparations for death in Wakanda, and Cyclops unleashing his optic blast amidst chaos. Collectively, these teasers strongly suggest a catastrophic event is coming for the main Marvel universe, with the clock counting down not just to the movie’s release in December, but potentially to the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as fans know it.
I’ve been thinking about something Kovak said, and it’s really stuck with me. If it wasn’t just a random comment, it feels like a terrifying prediction: could Wonder Man actually be the last movie ever made on Earth-616, right before Doctor Doom destroys everything? Even if it doesn’t go that far, it definitely suggests time is running out for everyone the Avengers fought so hard to save in Infinity War and Endgame – all those years of protecting humanity could be for nothing. It would be a disaster for the Avengers, of course, but I keep thinking about Simon. Imagine finally getting your big break, starring in a major film, only for it to be the last one ever made on your planet! That would be incredibly emotional – and knowing Simon, probably involve some ionic blasts. It would also mean the end of his acting career, which, honestly, after the way Season 1 of Wonder Man ended, might not be the worst thing. It seems like he’s heading towards becoming a true superhero, and maybe that’s where he truly belongs.
Will a Hard MCU Reset Launch a New Era of Marvel, or Destroy It?

Marvel Studios
It’s a strange situation: if the most extreme predictions about Marvel’s future storylines come true, the franchise’s success will hinge on its ability to dismantle everything it’s established over the past two decades. For nearly twenty years, the Avengers have dedicated themselves to preventing disasters, and all of that effort might ultimately lead to an unavoidable apocalypse. While the Multiverse ensures not everyone will die, a recent line of dialogue suggests Earth itself could be destroyed. This could be a dramatic and exciting story, but the big question is whether it will be enough to revitalize Marvel’s films and launch a new chapter for the franchise.
The success of Doomsday is crucial for the future of the Marvel franchise. With a projected cost of $500 million – making it the most expensive Marvel movie yet – the studio needs it to perform exceptionally well. Infinity War cost $316 million to produce, and Endgame cost $356 million, so Doomsday represents a significant financial risk. If audiences don’t embrace the film, it could spell trouble for the entire series.

Marvel is pulling out all the stops to make their new film, Doomsday, a massive event. With Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth reprising their roles as Captain America and Thor, and both characters now being fathers, the original Avengers face higher stakes than ever before. But the biggest draw is Robert Downey Jr., who will be playing a brand new villain, Victor Von Doom, instead of Tony Stark. A lot depends on how convincingly Downey embodies this new character, and how the studio addresses the obvious resemblance to his previous role.
The biggest hurdle for Doomsday will be managing the sheer number of heroes involved – it features the original Avengers, the Thunderbolts/New Avengers, characters from Wakanda, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men, making it Marvel’s largest team-up yet. If the movie can successfully balance all these characters like Infinity War did, without simply repeating the Thanos storyline, it could successfully reboot the universe as the filmmakers intend. However, if it feels overcrowded and purely motivated by profit, Doomsday risks mirroring its rumored plot: permanently damaging the timeline. We’ll find out if it succeeds when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
