Avengers: Doomsday Will Officially Fix The MCU’s Biggest Multiverse Saga Problem

As a huge MCU fan, I’m really excited about Avengers: Doomsday! It seems like Marvel is finally addressing the biggest issue with the Multiverse Saga. Bringing back characters like Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine was amazing, but honestly, some of the other cameos felt forced and actually lowered the stakes. There was a real worry that Doomsday would just pile on more of the same, especially with rumors swirling about a massive 61-person cast! But it sounds like this movie is going to fix that by making sure everything serves the story, which is exactly what we need to get really invested in this crossover.

Lewis Pullman, who will reprise his role as Bob (also known as The Sentry), recently told Esquire that Avengers: Doomsday won’t just be a series of quick appearances by different heroes. He explained that each character will have a meaningful role that helps develop their story.

Every character in their films gets a chance to shine and develop, adding depth to who they are. The Russo Brothers are excellent at ensuring no one feels like just a minor, unimportant figure.

Kevin Feige’s recent statements are encouraging because it seems Marvel is addressing the issue of too many cameos in the Multiverse Saga. Instead of having a huge cast simply appear in the background of Doomsday, the studio plans to give each confirmed hero and villain a meaningful role and substantial screen time, allowing their stories and characters to truly shine.

A strength of Doomsday is that every character gets a chance to shine, showcasing the Russo Brothers’ skill at managing a large cast – something they successfully demonstrated in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. This approach is a clear improvement over how films like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (with its Illuminati) and parts of Deadpool & Wolverine handled their multiverse cameos, which often felt crowded with minor appearances (like Cassandra Nova’s followers, comprised of older X-Men villains).

Beyond the issues with celebrity cameos, a major problem with the current phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the lack of strong central heroes. This makes it hard for audiences to form the same deep connections with characters that they did with iconic heroes like Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor during the previous saga.

The upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, directed by the Russo Brothers, will bring together Earth’s mightiest heroes – including the Fantastic Four and the X-Men – to battle Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. It’s scheduled to hit theaters on December 18th.

Why Avengers: Doomsday’s Multiversal Dilemma Should Be Its Strength

A common complaint about the Multiverse Saga is that it relies too much on alternate versions of characters to appeal to fans’ memories and generate excitement. However, the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film, directed by the Russo Brothers, has the potential to address this issue and actually use these alternate versions to its advantage.

The Russos are uniquely suited to direct Doomsday in a way that feels like a genuine team effort with high stakes, keeping audiences engaged with every character. The movie also hints at thrilling interactions within the MCU, potentially including conflicts and betrayals, which will carry more impact thanks to Doomsday‘s focus on complex characters.

Instead of just using alternate versions of heroes for brief, nostalgic moments, it would be much more impactful if those variants actively influenced the main storyline, giving them real purpose.

Look, I know things have felt a little shaky with the Multiverse Saga lately, but I really think Avengers: Doomsday could be exactly what we need. It feels like it has the power to bring everything back on track, give us real stakes again, and get us truly invested. If it works, it could give Marvel the boost they need heading into what sounds like an amazing next phase – the Mutant Saga! I’m hopeful this is the turning point we’ve been waiting for.
