Another day, another batch of Avengers: Doomsday updates for Marvel fans to theorize on.
According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel is planning a solo project for Scarlet Witch in the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is expected to focus on the X-Men and mutants. Since Scarlet Witch seemingly died at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – buried under Mount Wundagore – she’ll need to be brought back to life, and it appears this will happen in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie.
Alex Perez from Cosmic Circus reports that Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch will be in the upcoming Doomsday movie, though her appearance is a bit of a surprise. It’s not clear exactly what he means by ‘unexpected,’ but considering her character’s shift towards being an anti-hero, she might be one of the characters who switches allegiances and betrays allies.
Which MCU character will make their live-action debut in Avengers: Doomsday?
Perez shared that rumors suggest The Watcher might appear in the upcoming Doomsday project, marking his first live-action appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While he’s been voiced by Jeffrey Wright throughout all three seasons of What If…? and I Am Groot, The Watcher has also made brief, silent appearances in X-Men ’97, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Eyes of Wakanda, and Marvel Zombies.
Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be a huge, action-filled movie that brings together heroes from across the multiverse – characters fans have enjoyed for the last twenty years. Early reports suggest the film will start with a dramatic scene: Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Doc Ock battling the X-Men from the Fox universe, ultimately leading to the destruction of Spider-Man’s world.
Fourteen months after the events of last year’s Thunderbolts*, a major crisis will unfold, bringing together the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and X-Men to confront Doctor Doom.
Robert Downey Jr. is set to play Doctor Doom (Victor Von Doom) in the upcoming movie Doomsday, and will return for its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars. There are also rumors, though not officially confirmed, that he will be back as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the film.
Avengers: Doomsday, the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 6, will be released in theaters on December 18, 2026. It’s directed by the Russo Brothers.
