Avengers: Doomsday Theory Explains Why Doom May Be After Super-Babies

While rumors suggest we know the main villain for Avengers: Doomsday and that the movie will lead to a version of the Secret Wars comic storyline, details about the plot of the 2026 film are still scarce. With nearly a year left before its release, fans will undoubtedly keep sharing their predictions about what will happen next, especially as they revisit the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The biggest mystery surrounding the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance of Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., is his backstory. Many fans believe he’ll be a version of Tony Stark/Iron Man from another universe, similar to the ‘Infamous Iron Man’ comic book series. After a brief cameo in the post-credits scene of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps,’ very little is known about Doom’s origins or what he plans to do.

A recent idea suggests the Doctor Doom we met in First Steps could blend familiar details from the comics with a brand new storyline. As expected, this theory involves young Franklin Richards, the first MCU character to interact with Doom and a long-time target of his in the comics. But the theory goes further, hinting that Doom’s plans in the MCU might be much bigger than just Franklin Richards.

We’ve Now Seen At Least Three Super-Powered Children Associated With Doomsday

In the Marvel comics, Doctor Doom often tries to gain control of Franklin Richards, the incredibly powerful son of Reed and Sue Richards. Franklin is one of the strongest beings in existence, capable of changing reality itself, and that’s why Doom is so interested in him.

It’s not shocking to see Franklin connected to Doctor Doom, but it’s interesting that two trailers for Avengers: Doomsday focus on the children of superheroes. The first trailer showed Steve Rogers holding a child, who seems to be his son with Peggy Carter, in a timeline where he wasn’t frozen in time.

The latest trailer shows Thor pleading with the All-Fathers, hoping to return to his adopted daughter, Love, who was brought back to life by the powerful cosmic being, Eternity. We also see a heartwarming scene of Thor seemingly putting Love to bed. Given that three children are prominently involved in the events of Doomsday, it appears they all play a significant role in a larger story.

Dr. Doom May Be Collecting Super-Children To Replace Anchor Beings

In Marvel comics, Doctor Doom often acts to prevent the Multiverse from falling apart, though his true goal is always to take control of it and rebuild it to match his vision. A well-known storyline features him gaining the power of the Beyonders, allowing him to create Battleworld – a planet made from the pieces of dying universes – and rule as ‘God Emperor Doom’.

The basic plot of Secret Wars is already known, but a new idea suggests that Avengers: Doomsday might show Doctor Doom trying to fix the Multiverse beforehand. This theory proposes that Doom is particularly interested in children with superpowers, intending to use them as replacements for the beings holding together failing realities – essentially turning them into his controlled puppets.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ‘anchor beings’ are usually very strong individuals who help keep alternate realities stable. We’ve seen this with Wolverine, who anchored the reality of the Fox X-Men Universe (Earth 10005). That universe is now falling apart since Wolverine died in the movie Logan. Because the rules around anchor beings aren’t fully defined yet, Doctor Doom might be planning to use powerful duplicates of himself to prevent other realities from collapsing.

The children connected to the Doomsday event definitely seem to have the potential to impact reality on a cosmic scale. Franklin Richards, as we’ve discussed, has virtually unlimited power. The son of Captain America also fits the pattern, potentially inheriting the super-soldier serum’s abilities. And Thor’s daughter, Love, possesses the power of Eternity, hinting—based on the ending of Thor: Love and Thunder—that she’s far more than just a typical child.

There Are More Super-Children Already In The MCU

So far, we’ve identified three super-powered children connected to the Doomsday event, but there are likely more who could play a similar key role. The most likely candidates are the children of the Avengers – specifically, T’Challa’s son, T’Challa II, Hulk’s son Skaar, and Wanda Maximoff’s sons, Tommy (Wiccan) and Billy (Speed).

The MCU also features rising heroes such as Cassie Lang, Kamala Khan, and Kate Bishop. While they may not be as powerful as Franklin Richards or Love, they could still serve as important figures with unique abilities. Even Morgan Stark, who was key to Tony Stark’s story in Avengers: Endgame, might play a role in Doctor Doom’s future plans.

We’ll probably learn more from future trailers, but the repeated appearances of children in the footage so far suggest it’s not accidental. Given the history of the Doom comics with the character Franklin Richards, it’s very likely that super-powered children will be important to the story of Avengers: Doomsday.
