After taking a big risk with the ending of Avengers: Infinity War eight years ago, Marvel Studios is gearing up for two more epic films: Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. These movies will wrap up the current storyline, known as the Multiverse Saga, and will feature a huge cast of characters from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four. It looks like teamwork will be essential, leaving little room for lone wolves.
Just because a character isn’t in one Marvel movie doesn’t automatically mean they’ll be excluded from another. It’s likely that characters featured in Doomsday won’t be in Secret Wars, and vice versa. But occasionally, a late addition to the team could actually be a good thing for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
5 Characters the MCU Should Save for Avengers: Secret Wars
Spider-Man

I remember when the first cast list for Doomsday came out, and people immediately noticed Tom Holland wasn’t on it. There was a real buzz of disappointment online! It makes sense, though – with the original Avengers team now split up, he’s become the main face people associate with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so fans expected to see him involved.
Peter Parker is dealing with his own challenges in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie, which comes out before Doomsday. The fight against Scorpion and other villains could significantly impact Spider-Man, potentially leading him to take a break before the events of Secret Wars.
Storm

When Doctor Doom attacks the multiverse, the X-Men are ready for a major battle. While Magneto and Professor X will be fighting, it looks like Jean Grey and Storm won’t be involved – at least, that’s what the promotion for the upcoming event, Doomsday, suggests.
It might be smart to hold onto Storm for a more critical moment, as she could be a game-changer in Secret Wars, making a dramatic entrance similar to Thor’s in Infinity War.
Ghost Rider

Ghost Rider has been a constant topic of discussion lately, appearing in headlines and rumors more than any other character. It seems like every few weeks, new speculation arises about a major role for the Spirit of Vengeance in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Although having a character as strong as Ghost Rider would be helpful during the challenges in a Doomsday movie, adding him right now would be complicated. Marvel Studios would be smarter to hint at his appearance – whether it’s Johnny Blaze or another Rider – and then fully introduce him in a future film.
Scarlet Witch

As a huge superhero movie fan, I’ve noticed characters rarely stay dead, but Marvel’s really making it seem like Wanda Maximoff, or Scarlet Witch, is truly gone. It’s been a while now with no real clues about her coming back, and Elizabeth Olsen, who plays her, isn’t giving anything away when people ask about what’s next for the character. It’s a bit unusual, honestly, given how things usually work in the MCU.
While things are progressing nicely, it seems unlikely the Multiverse Saga will conclude without addressing its most crucial character, particularly considering her connection to the magical powers Doctor Doom will probably need as he begins to struggle.
Hawkeye

In the Disney+ series Hawkeye, Clint Barton begins to mentor Kate Bishop, who appears destined to join the MCU’s Young Avengers team. But even as he prepares her to take over, Clint isn’t one to stay on the sidelines when a major battle is brewing.
Following the established pattern of these stories, Hawkeye should be held back during the Doomsday event. This will let the other Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes face an impossible challenge on their own, setting the stage for a dramatic rescue in Secret Wars. While he’s not as spry as he used to be, Hawkeye still has valuable skills and experience to contribute.
