Avengers: Doomsday Believed To Be 2026’s Biggest Box Office Hit – Report

A recent report suggests Disney isn’t confident about the potential box office success of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. This film, and its follow-up Avengers: Secret Wars (planned for next year), are intended to conclude the current storyline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, known as the Multiverse Saga. Although specific plot details haven’t been released, some rumors about the story are beginning to circulate.

Disney executives reportedly happy with Avengers: Doomsday so far

Disney is reportedly pleased with how ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is performing and expects it to be the highest-grossing film at the box office.

A recent Variety article discussed the future of Disney under its new CEO, Josh D’Amaro. Sources within the film division emphasized that the success or failure of one movie doesn’t define the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole. Despite this, executives were reportedly very pleased with the performance of the film Doomsday, and leaders at competing studios privately believe it will be the year’s biggest box office hit in 2026.

A few early reviews of the movie appeared recently from people who saw it ahead of time. These reviews all suggested the film would be even better than fans are hoping for, and a step up in terms of both scope and quality compared to other Marvel movies.

The new Avengers movie, currently titled ‘Doomsday,’ is shaping up to be one of Marvel’s largest films yet. Actor David Harbour, who plays Red Guardian in the movie, has hinted that it’s even bigger in scope than the final season of ‘Stranger Things,’ describing it as the most ambitious project he’s ever been a part of.

The directors of the new film, the Russo Brothers, have said it will tell a more complex story than any of the previous Avengers movies.

The new Avengers movie, titled ‘Doomsday,’ is set to premiere on December 18, 2026, alongside ‘Dune: Part Three.’ Robert Downey Jr. will be back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing the villain Doctor Doom. According to DiscussingFilm, ‘Dune 3’ will get a special exclusive showing in IMAX theaters for its opening weekend, meaning ‘Doomsday’ will only be available in IMAX format in certain countries outside of the US. This news has led some fans to ask the studio to consider moving the release date of ‘Doomsday’ to avoid the limited IMAX availability.

The Russo brothers directed Avengers: Doomsday, working from a script written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. They also produced the film alongside Marvel Studios through their company, AGBO.
