James Cameron’s newest Avatar movie, Avatar: Fire and Ash, has unfortunately set a record for the lowest critic score of any film in the series on Rotten Tomatoes. The film returns audiences to the world of Pandora, following Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) – now parents – as they lead their family in a battle against a new Na’vi tribe known as the “Ash People,” who live near volcanoes.
Continuing the story from 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water – which earned $2.32 billion globally after the first Avatar made $2.92 billion – Avatar: Fire and Ash further develops the world by introducing new Na’vi tribes. The film stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and a large ensemble cast including Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, and Kate Winslet, among others.
The Avatar films have sparked much discussion about their influence on popular culture, and both Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water were both critically and commercially successful. The original Avatar currently has an 81% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and the sequel earned a “Certified Fresh” score of 76%. However, Avatar: Fire and Ash received a score of 71% based on 59 reviews, making it the lowest-rated film in the series so far, though still respectable.
