The most memorable Westerns don’t try to copy Leone’s style; they find new ways to tell stories about the West, whether they’re based on short stories or grand adventures. These films stand out because they truly reach the top of the genre.

The popularity of young adult dystopian novels like The Hunger Games, Maze Runner, and Divergent in the 2010s established a formula for creating successful movie trilogies. And Stephen King’s extensive collection of horror novels continues to be a major part of American popular culture, constantly inspiring new adaptations for film and television.
Gareth Evans wrote and directed this Indonesian action movie, which centers on a police squad sent to raid the home of a dangerous drug lord. The mission quickly falls apart, and a new recruit has to guide the remaining officers through the building to finish the job. Despite its simple story, the film was a huge success, earning far more than its small production budget.
