Classic cyberpunk films like Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049 weren’t initially popular with audiences. Cyberpunk stories are known for having intricate details and complicated worlds, which can be hard for people unfamiliar with the genre to get into. This might be why Prime Video’s new series, The Peripheral, was cancelled after just one season and eight episodes.

Director Gore Verbinski is famous for his work on the 2002 horror film The Ring and the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies – The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Dead Man’s Chest (2006), and At World’s End (2007). However, after the 2013 film The Lone Ranger flopped badly at the box office, and following A Cure for Wellness in 2016, Verbinski didn’t direct another movie for ten years.

Mike Flanagan and Josh King are collaborating with Warner Bros. to create a new adaptation of Stephen King’s 1980 novella, The Mist. Flanagan will write, direct, and produce the project through his company, Red Room, alongside Tyler Thompson and Spyglass Media Group’s Gary Barber and Chris Stone. Alexandra Magistro will serve as an executive producer for Red Room.

Stephen King has consistently highlighted compelling television series. In recent years, he’s publicly praised shows like the Apple TV thriller Servant, joining Guillermo del Toro in recognizing its quality. He previously enjoyed HBO’s adaptations of Mildred Pierce and Sharp Objects, and most recently, called Netflix’s Baby Reindeer a standout series – one of the best he’s ever watched.

In season 3, episode 7 of Tell Me Lies, creator Meaghan Oppenheimer explains Stephen’s motivation for finally giving Lucy the blackmail tape. He’d been keeping it from her for a while, despite her repeated pleas. He ultimately gives it to her after she breaks down emotionally in front of him.

The video begins with Willa Holland as Rebecca Owens, a mortician, going about her work at the River Fields Mortuary. She’s shown cleaning up after a procedure, following a checklist for her night shift. When she goes to the basement to restock supplies, she’s surprised by her boss, Raymond Delver (played by Paul Sparks), who steps out of the darkness. He immediately stops her from proceeding, and the clip ends by hinting at a disturbing reason why that part of the mortuary is off-limits.

News of the show first came out in March 2023, but it hasn’t been released yet. Given his previous successful projects, Ryan Coogler is well-equipped to handle it, and his commitment to the reboot is encouraging. He recently told The Hollywood Reporter that he’s still in the process of writing the series.
