As A Fan Of Solo, I Appreciate Alden Ehrenreich’s Thoughtful Take On The Star Wars Film’s BTS Issues

It’s amazing that so many elements must come together and people must collaborate for movies to be made, considering the complexity involved. However, it’s safe to say that few films embody this sense of miraculous production like the movie “Solo: A Star Wars Story”. This film was a whirlwind of chaos, leading to a director change during production. Despite this turbulent experience, the lead actor Alden Ehrenreich seems to maintain a practical perspective on it all.

In an interview with Collider, Ehrenreich – known for his role in the latest box office success “Weapons” – discussed the pressure that comes with film productions. He suggested that the stress experienced during the making of “Solo” may have had some positive impact, as it might have helped him better understand and depict his character’s own stress levels. Ehrenreich remarked…

Creating a film can be stressful no matter the circumstances. As an actor, you can channel the energy surrounding you into your performance. Sometimes this energy includes stress, but many characters are designed to be under pressure. In fact, only a few characters get to have all the fun. So, in a way, the stress can contribute positively to your role. However, it’s crucial that the environment is safe for everyone involved.

On set of Solo: A Star Wars Story, it’s obvious that there was no shortage of tension. Initially slated for Phil Lord and Chris Miller to direct, the film eventually ended up under Ron Howard’s guidance after Lord and Miller were unexpectedly dismissed from the project. The specific reason behind their departure remains vague, with many speculating that the movie they were creating didn’t align with Lucasfilm’s vision for Solo.

In the end, “Solo: A Star Wars Story” was unveiled to moderately unfavorable critiques and comparable moderate earnings at the box office. It’s the sole “Star Wars” film of the Disney period that failed to surpass the $1 billion threshold globally, and considering its likely substantial production costs because of numerous behind-the-scenes complications, it proved to be a financial loss for Lucasfilm and Disney.

It doesn’t mean there aren’t people who enjoy the film. In fact, I find it quite entertaining. Although attempts to produce a sequel, Solo 2, on social media have been made, it seems doubtful that we’ll get to see young Han again on the big screen at this moment. When asked about returning, Alden Ehrenreich didn’t entirely rule out the possibility, but expressed that he wouldn’t come back for just any reason, stating…

It would have to really, really be the right version of it.

I definitely hope to see Ehrenreich reprise his role as Han Solo again someday, preferably under circumstances where everyone involved is aligned and working together smoothly. We haven’t had the chance to see the character at his best yet, so if we get that opportunity, it could really be something special.
