Arnold Schwarzenegger’s The Terminator Debuts on Tubi in December

Although Arnold Schwarzenegger had already appeared in films like Conan the Barbarian and Conan the Destroyer in 1984, one movie truly launched his career. Starting December 1st, fans will be able to watch the film that kicked off a major franchise and made Schwarzenegger a global star – completely free.

As a huge movie fan, I’m excited to share that James Cameron’s classic, The Terminator, is coming to Tubi on December 1st! It’s amazing to think this incredible film, which only cost $6 million to make, earned over $78 million worldwide when it came out in 1984. The story centers around a cyborg assassin – played by Arnold Schwarzenegger – sent back in time to eliminate Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), the future mother of the man who’s supposed to save humanity. Michael Biehn also stars as Kyle Reese, and you’ll also see Paul Winfield and Lance Henriksen in this iconic sci-fi thriller.

The original Terminator film was a huge hit, leading to five follow-up movies: Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), Terminator Salvation (2009), Terminator Genisys (2015), and Terminator: Dark Fate (2019). James Cameron directed the first Terminator with Gale Anne Hurd and also directed Terminator 2, but he wasn’t involved in directing any of the later sequels. The first film received a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it a must-see for science fiction fans and fans of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

James Cameron addressed rumors about potentially returning to direct another Terminator film. In an interview with CNN, he revealed he’s been developing a script, but admitted he’s found it difficult to write science fiction lately. He explained that he’s concerned current world events might make any sci-fi story he creates feel less impactful.

James Cameron revealed he’s been trying to develop another Terminator story, but he’s struggled to begin. He explained that it’s hard to write a compelling narrative when real-world events are constantly surpassing science fiction. ‘We’re living in a science fiction world right now,’ he noted.

The One Sci-Fi Role Schwarzenegger Would Reprise

Glen Powell, who is starring in a remake of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 1987 film The Running Man, shared that Schwarzenegger only wants to revisit one science fiction role from his career. Powell said they showed the new film to Schwarzenegger, and he immediately loved it, even saying he’s “obsessed” with the original.

I was so surprised to hear him talk about his career! He mentioned that if he had to do it all over again, there’s really only one film he’d revisit: The Running Man. Apparently, it was a really tough shoot. He explained that they didn’t have much money, the director left mid-production, and everything was just kind of chaotic. They basically had to lock themselves in the studio to get it done, which sounds wild!

Powell compared Schwarzenegger to one of his movie roles, explaining that the premise—a man being hunted by everyone—was originally much broader. The story initially envisioned the entire world as the hunting ground, but for logistical reasons, the film had to limit the action to a contained arena, similar to the set of ‘American Gladiators.’ Despite the change, Powell still found the movie enjoyable.

The Terminator hits Tubi on Dec. 1.
