After 44 years, Arnold Schwarzenegger is returning to his iconic role in a new installment of the fantasy action series that made him famous. His original performance in 1982 was a breakthrough, showcasing his ability to defeat enemies and become a true action hero.
I’ll never forget when Arnold Schwarzenegger first became Conan back in 1982! It was such an iconic role, and the sequel, Conan the Destroyer, was great too. Even now, so many years later, his take on the character is still the one fans like me love the most – it really captured Robert E. Howard’s original hero. We’ve been hoping for ages to see him return as an older, more seasoned Conan, and it’s amazing to hear that Arnold says it’s actually being discussed, and they’ve even brought on a director! It’s incredibly exciting news.
Arnold Schwarzenegger recently announced at the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio, that Fox is making another Conan movie. The film will be directed by the director of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and written by the writer of Top Gun: Maverick, both frequent collaborators with Tom Cruise.
The studio recently brought on the talented writer and director behind Tom Cruise’s last four films, Christopher McQuarrie, to write and direct the next Conan movie, King Conan.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is returning to the role of Conan, and a sequel is in the works! He’s hinted that the new film will address his age, showing Conan after 40 years as king, unexpectedly overthrown and forced to fight to regain his throne.
These days, writers focus on crafting scenes that fit the character’s current age. While I’ll still be taking on challenging roles and performing action sequences, they’ll be adjusted to be realistic for my age.
The new Conan story focuses on his time as king – forty years, in fact – and his eventual exile. It’s a classic tale of conflict, with Conan facing challenges before ultimately returning amidst chaos, violence, magic, and fantastical creatures. The studio is investing heavily in special effects, promising visually impressive films, and I’m excited to see how these projects turn out.
For years, fans have hoped Arnold Schwarzenegger would return as Conan in a third film. He nearly made a comeback in the Netflix series Love, Death + Robots. Although Jason Momoa starred in a Conan reboot in 2011, many still want to see Schwarzenegger reprise the role. Now, with Christopher McQuarrie – known for successfully reviving other franchises – potentially involved, a King Conan movie starring Schwarzenegger feels more possible than ever before. While the project has been discussed for a long time, this time it could actually happen.
