Simon Kinberg, one of the show’s creators, revealed that several characters weren’t originally planned to make it through the Apple TV series. However, the actors who played them were so good that the writers decided to keep them around.
When asked if any actors influenced how long their characters lived on the show, *Invasion* co-creator Simon Kinberg explained that some characters were originally only meant to survive for a short time. He used Enver Gjokaj’s character as an example, saying they hadn’t planned for him to make it past the first season. The same was true for India Brown’s character, Jamila, who was also only intended to appear in the first season.
Sometimes, an actor would come in and completely elevate a role, exceeding anything we’d imagined. This often led us to continue the story, and even shift the focus, like we did with India’s character, telling it from her point of view. Initially, Billy Barrat’s character, Caspar, was the central figure in that storyline, but India took over as the lead in the second season, and now she’s the only character remaining from that arc in the current season.
Kinberg explained that some characters unexpectedly stood out due to the actors’ performances. These actors elevated their roles, prompting the writers to expand their storylines and explore the characters’ complexities and humanity in greater detail.
Premiering on Apple TV in 2021, *Invasion*, created by Kinberg and David Weil, quickly became a hit with fans of science fiction, action, and dramatic storytelling. The show offers a unique perspective on an alien invasion by following the experiences of people around the world as it happens.
The Apple TV+ series *Invasion* features a large cast, including Billy Barratt as Caspar Morrow, Shioli Kutsuna as Mitsuki Yamato, Golshifteh Farahani as Aneesha Malik, Enver Gjokaj as Clark Evans, India Brown as Jamila Huston, and Shamier Anderson as Trevante Cole. The first season received mixed reviews, and the show hasn’t yet captivated audiences despite its continued efforts.
What Does the Future Look Like for Invasion on Apple TV+?
Though the current storyline of *Invasion* will wrap up with the release of “The End of the Line” on October 24th, viewers can still anticipate at least one more season of the sci-fi adventure. Specifics about Season 4—including its plot and release date—haven’t been revealed yet. However, the show’s creator, Kinberg, has mentioned his plan for the series’ main story to unfold over four seasons.
Before the third season of *Invasion* came out, creator Simon Kinberg shared that he originally envisioned the show lasting four seasons. He explained that while the end of the current season resolves some storylines, others will remain unanswered.
Invasion is currently available for streaming on Apple TV.
