Apple TV’s single-season crime thriller is a truly captivating watch, and it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re a subscriber. Apple TV has rapidly become a top-tier streaming service, especially when it comes to science fiction. They boast an impressive collection of sci-fi shows, including popular titles like Severance, Silo, and Foundation.
Apple TV+ has become a great source for compelling crime thrillers, delivering shows packed with intriguing mysteries, memorable detectives, and unexpected plot twists. Recent hits like Black Bird and Slow Horses have established the streamer as a leader in the genre, and now a new limited series is joining their ranks.
Apple TV’s New Crime Thriller Will Hook Viewers From Episode 1
Apple TV premiered the first two episodes of “The Last Frontier” on October 10, 2025. By early December, all ten episodes of the snowy, neo-western series were available to stream. I immediately thought the show sounded like one of Apple TV’s most compelling new releases when I first learned about it.
In the series The Last Frontier, Jason Clarke plays Frank Remnick, a U.S. Marshal whose peaceful life in Alaska is disrupted when a plane carrying prisoners crashes near his town. The show follows Frank as he attempts to recapture all of the escaped convicts.
The show isn’t just about tracking down escaped criminals. A key villain is connected to sensitive CIA secrets that could cause major problems for the agency. Plus, Frank’s family gets caught up in the danger, and he’ll do anything to protect them. The first episode ends with a surprising twist that immediately grabs your attention.
Why Apple TV’s The Last Frontier Is Worth Binging
Setting a western-style story in Alaska offers a unique and visually stunning TV experience. The beautiful landscapes not only set it apart from typical crime shows, but also emphasize the harshness and drama of what happens. The Last Frontier features frequent deaths, and the show doesn’t shy away from depicting violence, often showing blood against the snowy scenery.
The story immediately grabs your attention with a thrilling beginning and keeps you guessing with unexpected turns. Clarke does a fantastic job making his character, Frank, someone you root for right away, and the tension between Frank and CIA agent Sidney Scofield (played by Haley Bennett) drives much of the plot. Dominic Cooper is also a standout – I won’t give away his role, but he’s captivating every time he’s on screen.
With so many streaming options available, the cancellation of The Last Frontier after just one season actually makes it a quick and easy show to watch. It’s immediately engaging and doesn’t require a big time commitment. The show’s ending wraps up the main storyline pretty well, so viewers won’t feel left hanging despite its cancellation.
