I just found out what’s happening with Platonic on Apple TV! It’s coming in May 2023, and it’s created by Francesca Delbanco and Nicholas Stoller. What’s really exciting is it stars Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne – you might remember them together from Neighbors – playing Will and Sylvia. They’re old friends reconnecting, and let me tell you, things get a little messy as they fall back into their old habits!
Season 2 of Platonic, featuring Luke Macfarlane, Tre Hale, Andrew Lopez, and Carla Gallo, aired from August to October. The season ended with a subtle hint of what might happen next for the main characters, but the finale felt like a natural stopping point for the show, leaving many viewers wondering if it could have been the end.
Good news for fans! According to Deadline, Apple TV+ has renewed Platonic for a third season. Creators Nick Stoller and Fran Delbanco are thrilled to be back, and have shared their appreciation for the cast – Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen – as well as Sony and Apple. Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+, also expressed his enthusiasm. You can find their full statements below.
Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco expressed their excitement about continuing the Platonic series, praising their collaborators Rose Byrne, Seth Rogen, Sony, and Apple.
According to Matt Cherniss, the show Platonic demonstrates that Seth and Rose are a fantastic comedic pair, especially when it comes to portraying mid-life struggles, and he’s excited to see what they create in a third season.
Season 2 of Platonic was created by Sony Pictures Television, with Nick Stoller’s Global Solutions having a production deal. The show followed Sylvia and Will as they navigated new difficulties. Will’s wedding didn’t go according to plan, and Sylvia dealt with both work and personal issues.
It became clear that things were changing when Sylvia’s husband, Charlie Macfarlane, quit his job as a lawyer to pursue his dream of becoming a writer. This also created an opportunity for Bobby Cannavale, who is married to the actress playing Sylvia, to appear in a repeating dream sequence as Charlie.
The comedy series Platonic quietly delivered another strong season, and the finale hinted at an exciting new direction: Will and Sylvia might become business partners. This could be a clever workaround for a work agreement that’s currently limiting Will’s options. Platonic is just one of several projects for Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne with Apple TV, where they both have established connections.
Seth Rogen stars in and helped create the new comedy series The Studio, and Rose Byrne received praise for her role in Physical. However, Platonic, originally conceived as a limited series, has continued to be renewed for additional seasons, much to the delight of viewers, despite its conclusive endings.
