Apple TV Officially Confirms the For All Mankind Season 5

Apple TV has renewed its popular sci-fi series for a fifth season, which will premiere on March 27th.

Good news for fans! Apple TV has confirmed that For All Mankind will be back for a sixth and final season. The announcement followed strong positive reactions to season five, suggesting viewers are eager for more.

For All Mankind Retconed One of the Biggest Events in History

Created by Ronald D. Moore (known for Battlestar Galactica and Outlander), Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi, For All Mankind is a science fiction series that debuted in 2019. It imagines an alternate history where the space race between the U.S. and the Soviet Union continued after the Soviets successfully landed the first humans on the Moon. The show’s name is taken from the famous message on the plaque left by the Apollo 11 crew: ‘We Came in Peace for All Mankind.’

Season 5 will star Joel Kinnaman, known from Suicide Squad, along with Toby Kebbell (Kong: Skull Island), Edi Gathegi (Superman), Cynthy Wu (The Happytime Murders), Coral Peña (24: Legacy), and Wrenn Schmidt (The Looming Tower). Joining as new series regulars are Mirelle Enos (The Killing), Costa Ronin (The Americans), Sean Kaufman (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Ruby Cruz (Bottoms), and Ines Asserson (Royalteen).

Season 5 of Apple TV’s show will take place after the daring Goldilocks asteroid robbery, showing a time when humans are successfully living on Mars. The Martian colony, Happy Valley, has grown into a bustling city with thousands of inhabitants and serves as a launching point for further space exploration. However, as Earth’s countries try to establish rules and control on Mars, tensions are rising between the colonists and those back on Earth.

For All Mankind Continued a Strong Rotten Tomatoes Trend

Before it officially premiered on March 27th, the show For All Mankind received positive early reviews, with 86% approval based on the first seven assessments. While this score is likely to shift as more reviews are published, it’s worth noting that the show didn’t maintain a perfect rating, unlike seasons two and four. Still, it’s a good score, and better than the 75% approval rating the first season received.

Germain Lussier at Io9 noted that while season five of For All Mankind isn’t quite as strong as earlier seasons and starts a bit slowly, it ultimately delivers the same captivating qualities that make the show so good.

According to critic Doll, the creators of the show, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, appear to have taken some lessons to heart. The new season sends astronauts on a previously unexplored space mission, making it the most daring installment so far.

I’m so excited! Season 5 of For All Mankind is starting on Friday, March 27th, and Apple TV+ is releasing a new episode every Friday until May 29th. I’ve already marked my calendar!
