Apple TV+ announced on Thursday that a second season of Margo’s Got Money Troubles is officially happening. The show was a hit with both critics and audiences when it first launched, earning a remarkable 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes – one of the highest scores for any new show this year. Strong viewership numbers, combined with the positive reviews, made the renewal a natural next step.
Margo’s Got Money Troubles Will Continue With Season 2
Elle Fanning, the star and executive producer of the series, said that bringing Margo’s story to life has been a highlight of her career. She was immediately captivated by the originality and humanity of Rufi’s story, and believed, along with David’s writing and the cast’s powerful performances, that they were creating something truly special. Fanning is thrilled to have the chance to explore Margo’s struggles, imagination, bravery, and honesty further in a second season, and promises audiences a captivating and emotional experience.
David E. Kelley, an executive producer and writer on the show, said he was immediately drawn to Margo’s Got Money Troubles. He loved the unique world and characters created by Rufi and is thrilled audiences are enjoying the series. He and the team are excited to continue the story with Apple and A24.
Fans Head Into the Season Finale Knowing the Story Continues
Following the successful launch of the series based on Rufi’s novel, viewers have been eager to see more of the compelling characters and their story, particularly Elle, Michelle Pfeiffer, Nick Offerman, and Thaddea Graham. According to Matt Cherniss, Apple TV’s head of programming, they’re thrilled to continue following Margo and her family as they overcome challenges in Season 2 with their unique blend of humor, resilience, and ingenuity.
Kelley is the lead creative force behind the series, with Eva Anderson joining as co-showrunner for the upcoming second season. The show is executive produced by Fanning and Kelley, alongside Dakota Fanning and Brittany Kahan Ward from Lewellen Pictures, Nicole Kidman and Per Saari from Blossom Films, and Matthew Tinker from David E. Kelley Productions. Additional executive producers are Pfeiffer, Rufi Thorpe, Anderson, Boo Killebrew, and Dearbhla Walsh.
The series, adapted from Thorpe’s novel, follows Margo, a college student and writer whose life is upended by an affair with a professor and an unexpected pregnancy. She relies on her unconventional family – a former wrestler father (Offerman) and a complex mother (Pfeiffer) – for support. To make ends meet, Margo begins creating online adult content, drawing on the performance and promotional skills she observed during her family’s time in professional wrestling.
