Anthony Mackie’s 8 Mile Leaves Netflix: Catch It Before Jan 1

If you’re a fan, you don’t have much time left to watch “8 Mile” on Netflix. The critically acclaimed 2002 film starring Eminem will soon be removed from the streaming service.

The movie 8 Mile will be removed from the streaming service on January 1st. Released in November 2002, this rap drama is inspired by Eminem’s early life and tells the story of Jimmy “B-Rabbit” Smith Jr., a young rapper trying to succeed in Detroit’s competitive music world.

As a huge film buff, I was really excited to see this movie, especially with Eminem taking the lead! And the cast didn’t disappoint – it was packed with incredible actors like Kim Basinger, Mekhi Phifer, and the late, great Brittany Murphy. It was a seriously talented group all in one film.

Despite a strong cast and crew, the movie 8 Mile didn’t receive great reviews from general audiences. Currently, it has a 54% score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter, which reflects audience opinions. However, critics were more positive, giving the film a 76% rating on the Tomatometer. Reviewers particularly praised the film’s striking visuals, surprising plot turns, and Eminem’s powerful performance as Jimmy.

The amazing reviews really paid off – 8 Mile started racking up award nominations, including at the Golden Globes and Satellite Awards in 2003. But the biggest win was Eminem taking home the Oscar for Best Original Song with “Lose Yourself.” It was a huge moment, making him the first solo rapper ever to win an Academy Award, and honestly, it was so well-deserved!

In addition to receiving critical acclaim and winning numerous awards, 8 Mile was a huge commercial success. The film grossed $242.9 million worldwide, making nearly six times its $41 million production budget.

Anthony Mackie Also Served As A Muse in the Decorated Film

You know, everyone talks about Eminem and 8 Mile, but I recently heard something fascinating. On the Pivot Podcast a few months ago, Anthony Mackie – he played Papa Doc, my rival in the movie – revealed that Eminem actually suggested things to add to our scenes. He wanted to make our on-screen conflict feel even more real and layered, which I thought was pretty cool. It wasn’t just about him and his story; he really wanted to elevate the whole movie.

He remembered talking to his incredibly talented co-star, Eminem, during filming. “It didn’t make sense to be fighting,” he said. “I agreed with him. He told me he needed a reason to have something to say about me, so we talked for about two hours, just hanging out. I told him I’d see him later.”

While filming the famous rap battle, Anthony Mackie realized Eminem had incorporated parts of their actual conversation into his aggressive lyrics. “That’s why I’m standing there reacting – he was talking about me, not my character, Clarence!” Mackie explained. “It had nothing to do with the scene, he was just being rude. I thought, ‘Okay, I’m going to have to physically fight this guy,'” he added with a laugh.

The actor, known for his role in The Avengers, had mentioned that Eminem asked if it was okay to include references to him in the song’s lyrics. He remembered Eminem asking, “Do you mind if I add some stuff about you to the script?” Even knowing about it beforehand, the lyrics still felt personal. “He basically jokes about me as Papa Doc,” the actor explained. “I thought, ‘That’s a bit too close to home, Mr. Marshall!'”

8 Mile is currently available to stream on Netflix.
