Anthony Mackie & Dafne Keen Cast in New Action Thriller ‘Barracuda’

Despite some recent challenges, the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains incredibly popular. It consistently delivers thrilling stories – the trailers for Avengers: Doomsday were the most-watched ever – and has launched its actors into superstardom. Over the past two decades, stars like Tom Hiddleston, Simu Liu, and Florence Pugh have become widely recognized thanks to their roles in the Marvel films, and this trend continues today.

Chris Hemsworth has found success with another big action series on Netflix (Extraction), Simu Liu became a household name thanks to the 2023 Barbie movie, and Tom Holland is now a global star with films like The Odyssey coming up. Continuing this wave of success, a new announcement reveals that two major Marvel actors will be starring in a movie together for the very first time.

Director Neil Berger, who has worked on projects like Divergent, Limitless, and The Illusionist, is starting production this week on a new action thriller called Barracuda. Deadline reports that Anthony Mackie and Dafne Keen, both well-known for their roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will star in the film. Mackie is famous for playing Sam Wilson/Falcon/Captain America, with ten MCU credits to his name, and Keen played Laura/X-23 in Logan (2017) and Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), which was Marvel’s only movie release last year.

The film also features Steven Bauer (known from Ray Donovan) and Anthony Del Negro (Running Point). The script was written by Adam Mason and Simon Boyes. The story centers on Karl, played by Mackie, a man with a troubled history as a smuggler, who attempts to rescue Jodie, a teenager who has been kidnapped, from a Mexican nightclub. Things quickly escalate into a dangerous, fast-paced chase when Karl accidentally kills the club owner’s brother and steals his car, leaving both Karl and Jodie constantly on the run.

Karl Mackie, a man with a shadowy past as a smuggler, bursts into a Mexican nightclub to save a kidnapped teenager named Jodie. This act sets off a violent chain of events, a furious chase across 100 miles of dangerous roads heading towards the American border. After killing the brother of the club owner and stealing his beloved 1973 Plymouth Barracuda, Karl and Jodie find themselves relentlessly pursued by criminals, forcing them to speed across the desert in a desperate attempt to escape.

As of writing, Barracuda does not have a confirmed production timeframe or release schedule.
