The cast of Anaconda, a surprisingly clever and original film expected to be one of the year’s best, is already brainstorming a sequel, sharing their ideas with MovieWeb in a recent interview. Anaconda hits theaters worldwide on December 25th, bringing a hilariously self-aware spoof to Christmas Day. The movie follows Doug and Griff, two fans who take their love for the 1997 Jennifer Lopez, Jon Voight, and Ice Cube classic Anaconda to the extreme by attempting to remake it in the Amazon rainforest. Things quickly go wrong when they encounter a very real and very hungry giant snake with a taste for filmmakers.
Jack Black, Paul Rudd, and other cast members from Anaconda recently spoke with MovieWeb and expressed enthusiasm for a sequel. They all agreed they’d love to return and have a clear idea of what monster should be included: the shape-shifting creature from John Carpenter’s The Thing. Zahn stated he’d work with the group again in a heartbeat, and Newton concurred. The cast has even discussed a potential follow-up film set in the same universe, envisioning a story inspired by the 1982 sci-fi horror classic, The Thing.
Honestly, I’m already hooked and can’t wait to see what trouble these characters get into next! My friends and I were just brainstorming ideas, and we all agreed a scenario like ‘The Thing’ would be amazing. I’m really excited to see where they take it!
We’re heading to Canada! Why not come with us instead of going to Alaska? It’ll be amazing – think monsters and snow! It would be so much fun.
Jack Black Agrees: ‘The Thing’ Is the Way to Go With ‘Anaconda 2’

Universal Pictures
Jack Black also shared his thoughts and said he thought the idea was good. “It’s funny you chose what many consider to be one of the best horror movies ever made,” said the Minecraft actor. While it’s too soon to say anything definite about Anaconda 2 (the movie doesn’t even have a title yet), Black added:
Apparently, the movie The Hateful Eight was heavily inspired by The Thing. It’s really noticeable if you’ve seen The Thing! Plus, Kurt Russell is in both films.
That’s a fantastic idea! It wouldn’t be quite as fun, but we could call it Anaconda, right? And we’d probably have to refer to it as a ‘thing.’ We’ll need to check if we can get the rights, as someone – John Carpenter, I think – might have a say in it.
This funny action movie comes out in theaters on Christmas Day, perfect if you’re looking for something new to watch while celebrating with family. While many people enjoy holiday traditions like rewatching Home Alone, this film offers a fresh, exciting option. Expect plenty of laughs, some thrills, and a great cast, plus maybe even a few surprise celebrity appearances!
Even with other movies playing at your local cinema – like Avatar 3, Marty Supreme, and the newest SpongeBob film – Anaconda might just be the unexpectedly fun and thrilling action-horror movie you need this Christmas.
