Ballerina star Ana de Armas and Marvel’s Sebastian Stan have joined the cast of a new spy thriller.
According to Variety, Ana de Armas and Edgar Stan will star in a new thriller called Impunity, directed by Felipe Gálvez, who also directed The Settlers. Alfredo Castro, Antonia Zegers, and Alejandro Goic are also featured in the film. De Armas and Stan are not only acting in Impunity, but they are also executive producers on the project.
As a real film buff, I’m incredibly excited about this new movie! It’s being shot all over the place – Chile, Spain, the UK, it’s quite the production. It’s set in the ’90s and tells the true story of Augusto Pinochet, the dictator who ruled Chile for nearly twenty years. The film focuses on the eight years after he left power, when he was actually facing charges of terrorism and genocide. It sounds like a powerful and important story.
The series follows a mercenary and an envoy as they uncover disturbing conspiracies and hidden truths. It’s based on Philippe Sands’ 2025 book, 38 Londres Street: On Impunity, Pinochet in England, and a Nazi in Patagonia.
Director Gálvez shared with Variety that he aims to use the spy genre to examine forgotten parts of history and silenced discussions. He doesn’t want to glorify conspiracy theories, but instead to show how justice can be compromised, stalled, and turned into a public show.
I was raised on fragmented narratives and conversations cut short by apprehension. With my work, I aim to uncover the hidden or forgotten parts of our past. I’m using the style of spy stories not to glorify secret plots, but to show how justice can be compromised, stalled, and turned into a public display.
Gálvez has experience as an editor and has also directed and written two short films. He made his first full-length film, the Western The Settlers, three years ago. It was a critical success, winning a prize at the Cannes Film Festival and earning a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Producers Benjamín Domenech and Emily Morgan commended Gálvez’s concept for Impunity, stating it will connect with viewers who want to question the core beliefs of our society.
Ardavan Safaee, president of Pathé Films, said he was instantly drawn to the screenplay, penned by Gálvez, Mariano Llinás, and Antonia Girardi. He decided Gálvez was the ideal director to bring 38 Londres Street to life after being impressed by Gálvez’s unique and powerful way of exploring history in his film The Settlers.
For Benjamín Domenech and Emily Morgan, making ‘Embarking on Impunity’ was a significant artistic and historical undertaking. They believe the film is a crucial contribution to the current conversation about accountability, offering a powerful examination of the core principles that shape our world and will connect with viewers seeking deeper understanding.
Ardavan Safaee was deeply impressed by Felipe Gálvez’s direction in The Settlers, praising its skillful filmmaking and unique approach to historical storytelling. He and his team were immediately drawn to the script for Impunity, finding it a captivating and intelligent work that both entertains and reveals surprising insights, enhanced by the strong performances of Sebastian Stan and Ana de Armas.
Gálvez’s next film, Impunity, will bring back several key creative talents from his previous movie, The Settlers. This includes editor Matthieu Taponier, composer Harry Allouche, cinematographer Simone D’Arcangelo, and costume designer Muriel Parra.
I’ve been a fan of Ana de Armas for a while now! Before she took on her role in Impunity, she was already in some amazing films – I loved her in Blade Runner 2049, Knives Out, and No Time to Die. And I was so excited to see her as Marilyn Monroe in Blonde, a performance that even got her an Oscar nomination! She’s incredibly talented, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what she does next.
Sebastian Stan is famous for his role as Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s appeared in several films, including Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and the series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, as well as the upcoming film Thunderbolts.
Two years after Ana de Armas received an Oscar nomination, Jeremy Strong was also nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of Donald Trump in the film The Apprentice.
Ana de Armas and Sebastian Stan are joining forces again for a new thriller called Impunity. This will be their second collaboration, following the 2023 Apple TV film Ghosted. Currently, there’s no information available on when Impunity will be released.
