Ana de Armas’ John Wick Spinoff Ballerina Becomes a Streaming Hit

Ana de Armas‘ action movie, a spin-off of the John Wick series, is now a success on Starz. While it didn’t perform well in theaters when it was released in June, earning the lowest box office numbers of any John Wick film besides one, it’s currently the most-watched movie on Starz in the U.S.

The series Ballerina has been consistently popular on Starz in the U.S. since it launched in late September. Although Ana de Armas’ character might not attract huge crowds to movie theaters, viewers are enjoying the spin-off from the convenience of streaming at home.

With $137.2 million in box office revenue, Ballerina is the second-lowest-performing film in the John Wick series. Only the original John Wick from 2014 earned less, bringing in $86 million. However, the first John Wick was a unique film that benefited from strong word-of-mouth and wider international distribution, which ultimately boosted the box office numbers for the subsequent sequels.

Ballerina May Have a Future In the John Wick Universe

Although Ballerina didn’t perform as well at the box office as some of the John Wick movies, Lionsgate is still planning future installments featuring the character Eve. Discussions are already underway for a sequel, and potentially a spin-off series.

According to director Len Wiseman, Eve is currently staying at the Continental while she processes the fact that her entire life has been based on a deception. She’s finally understood her father’s motivations and her own origins, leading her to a decisive moment. She’s made a choice based on the answers she’s found, but she knows that choice will have repercussions.

According to Wiseman, Eve now faces the repercussions of her choices, as both John Wick and Winston made clear would happen. He explains that the world she inhabits is harsh, and escaping trouble isn’t easy. Her next step will be figuring out how to cope with the fallout from her actions in the film.

Although Ballerina didn’t perform as well in theaters as other John Wick films, it’s still doing well on Starz, which could mean there’s still a future for the character Eve.

The new movie, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, happens at the same time as the events in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. It follows Eve Macarro (played by Ana de Armas) as she starts training to become an assassin, learning the ways of the Ruska Roma, all while seeking revenge for her father’s death.

Len Wiseman directed the film Ballerina, written by Shay Hatten. The movie stars Ana de Armas as Eve, alongside Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves.
