“Amma’s Pride,” a film celebrating transgender representation, marriage equality, and acceptance of LGBTQ+ families, has been selected as an official contender for the Academy Awards in the Documentary Short category.

Shiva Krish’s highly praised short documentary, Amma’s Pride, is now eligible for nomination at the Academy Awards®.

“Amma’s Pride” is a beautiful and powerful film that tells the story of Valli, a mother who fiercely supports her transgender daughter, Srija, as she falls in love, gets married, and fights for her marriage to be legally recognized in a conservative South Indian town. As societal disapproval threatens their happiness, Valli holds onto hope. The film touches on relatable themes of love, family, tradition, and change, connecting with viewers globally.

Since its release, Amma’s Pride has been shown and celebrated around the world, with over 50 screenings taking place on every continent – even Antarctica! It has also been featured at prominent film festivals in countries like India, Poland, Brazil, Germany, Australia, Egypt, China, Canada, and the United States.

The film hopes to reach more people by partnering with LGBTQ+ media outlets and connecting with audiences worldwide who are looking for stories about equality, acceptance, and love.

Throughout 2025 and 2026, the team behind Amma’s Pride plans to increase awareness of the film and gain more media attention. They will focus on showcasing the filmmakers, how the film is distributed and its positive effects, the film’s exploration of different cultures, and its important social message.
