I’m so excited for the 13th season of American Horror Story! It feels like a real comeback, and I was really surprised to hear they’re revisiting one of my favorite seasons. Even though the show hasn’t been as strong lately, it’s still one of the best horror series ever made, and clearly, a lot of people still love it enough to keep it going!
Season 12 of American Horror Story, titled Delicate, was unique because it was the first season based on an existing story. However, season 13 will return to the show’s original format with a completely new story. It will also reunite many familiar faces, including stars Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, and Jessica Lange.
Jessica Lange’s return to American Horror Story is generating a lot of excitement, both because she’s a talented and beloved actress and because she hasn’t been on the show since Apocalypse. Ryan Murphy recently revealed the first images of Lange in season 13 and unexpectedly announced the season’s theme.
Ryan Murphy Seemed To Confirm American Horror Story 13 Is A Sequel To Coven
Details about the plot and overall story of American Horror Story season 13 remain unknown, but many fans believe it will continue the storyline from season 3, Coven, due to the returning actors. On April 6, 2026, Ryan Murphy posted a first glimpse of Jessica Lange in the new season on Instagram, though the photos only show her from behind, looking through a window.
The photos haven’t given us many clues, but a surprising exchange in the comments section has fans excited. When one user suggested season 13 should expand on the ‘Coven’ storyline, creator Ryan Murphy simply replied, “Done.” This is being interpreted as confirmation that the new season will, in some way, continue the story from ‘Coven,’ though it’s also possible Murphy’s response has a different meaning.
Fans have been asking for the witches to return, particularly Angela Bassett as Marie Laveau, and Ryan Murphy’s recent comment might be hinting at her return. His statement could also suggest that Coven will continue, building on how Apocalypse brought together storylines from Murder House, Coven, and Hotel.
How Jessica Lange’s Season 13 Return Rewrites Coven For The Second Time
If Sarah Paulson’s comment is accurate, the upcoming thirteenth season of American Horror Story will continue the story from Coven. This would essentially be a second revision of season 3. The events of Apocalypse already altered the timeline when Mallory went back in time and defeated Michael Langdon, changing elements of the seasons connected to it.
Rumors suggest Jessica Lange might reprise her role as Fiona Goode in the upcoming season, but this creates a plot problem. Fiona died and was seemingly trapped in Hell at the end of Coven. Bringing her back would mean American Horror Story is altering the events of Coven again, and it’s significant because Fiona was the leader of the coven before she died.
Who Else Could Jessica Lange Play In AHS 13 (& Still Be A Sequel To Coven)
It would make sense for Fiona to return if the current season of American Horror Story continues the story from Coven. However, photos recently shared by Ryan Murphy suggest another familiar character might be appearing. Although we only see her from behind, the hairstyle of the actress in the photos matches that of Jessica Lange’s character, Constance Langdon, from Murder House and Apocalypse.
Constance is Tate’s mother and Michael’s grandmother; Michael is eventually revealed to be the Antichrist. She took her own life at the Murder House hoping to reunite with her children in death. However, because Michael was erased from existence by Mallory’s time travel in Apocalypse, Constance’s suicide may have been unnecessary. Since Apocalypse established that Murder House, Coven, and Hotel all take place in the same shared universe, Jessica Lange’s return as Constance can be seen as a continuation of her story from Coven.
We’re just waiting to learn more about season 13 of American Horror Story, including its theme, plot, and characters. We also need confirmation about whether it will continue the story from Coven. If it does connect to Coven, the showrunners will need to carefully consider how they revisit and revise the events of season 3.
