Both the John Wick and Game of Thrones franchises are known for their detailed stories and violent content, so it’s not surprising to see so many actors from Game of Thrones appearing in the John Wick films. The John Wick movies revitalized the action genre in the 2010s, bringing back a raw and intense feel through creative fight scenes and long, unbroken camera shots.
Over the next ten years, many action films – including Extraction, Nobody, and Atomic Blonde – took inspiration from the distinctive action style of the John Wick movies. The films also draw a diverse cast of talent, ranging from established stars like Anjelica Huston and Laurence Fishburne to action movie icons such as Donnie Yen and Scott Adkins.
5. Alfie Allen (John Wick)
The John Wick movies have consistently featured actors from Game of Thrones, which is a fun surprise for fans. A prime example is Alfie Allen, who played the spoiled Russian gangster Iosef Tarasov in the first film. Iosef is the son of Viggo Tarasov (played by Michael Nyqvist), a powerful crime boss with a history with John Wick.
John Wick was actually able to retire thanks to a nearly impossible task he completed for a man named Viggo. Iosef doesn’t know any of this when he meets John, and his actions – killing Wick’s dog and stealing his car – are what start the entire story. Viewers of Game of Thrones might recognize Allen as the actor who played Theon Greyjoy.
Watching Theon Greyjoy’s arc on Game of Thrones was a wild ride. He started as a seemingly loyal ward of the Starks, but man, did he fall from grace! Then, the truly awful Ramsay Bolton got his hands on him, and that’s where things got really dark. Surprisingly, that torture ultimately brought him back to fighting for the Starks. It reminded me a lot of Iwan Rheon’s other role, as Iosef in a different show—a similar shift into villainy, but unlike Theon, Iosef never got a chance to redeem himself. It’s a testament to Rheon’s acting range, honestly, being able to play both such compelling, yet drastically different, characters.
4. Ian McShane (John Wick 1-4, From The World Of John Wick: Ballerina)
Ian McShane has been in all of the John Wick movies, and will also appear in the upcoming 2025 spinoff, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina. He plays Winston Scott, the elegant manager of the New York Continental Hotel, which provides a secure meeting place for assassins of every kind.
Winston acts as a mentor and father figure to John, repeatedly trying to help him even as John gets into more and more trouble. However, Winston’s patience is tested in Chapter 3, and he attempts to kill John to demonstrate his allegiance to the High Table. Fortunately, they reconcile in the fourth installment of the series.
Ian McShane made a brief appearance in Game of Thrones as Brother Ray in season 6’s “The Broken Man.” This episode confirmed that Sandor Clegane, known as the Hound (played by Rory McCann), had survived the fight that seemingly killed him at the end of season 4. We also learned that McShane’s character, Ray, and his group helped Sandor recover.
Ray, a former soldier who found faith, had vowed to never fight again. The Hound disagreed with Ray’s peaceful beliefs, and sadly, his skepticism proved right when Ray and his followers were brutally killed. This shocking event forces the Hound back into fighting in Game of Thrones, leading him to track down and kill the men responsible for the massacre.
3. Jerome Flynn (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum)
Jerome Flynn first became famous as part of a popular acting and musical duo with Robson Green. They initially gained recognition for their roles in the 1990s TV drama Soldier Soldier, and later formed the short-lived but successful singing duo Robson & Jerome, releasing several hit songs between 1995 and 1997.
Jerome Flynn had mostly stopped acting when he landed the role of Bronn in Game of Thrones, a character that quickly became popular with viewers. This part significantly boosted his career again, and he went on to appear in other projects like 1923 and Ripper Street.
In the 2019 film John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Clancy Brown played Berrada, an important figure within the High Table. John Wick seeks him out to get information about the Elder. A conflict arises when Berrada attempts to take one of Sofia’s dogs, sparking a large gunfight between his forces and Wick’s allies.
2. Natalia Tena (John Wick: Chapter 4)
Natalia Tena stood out during her role in Game of Thrones. She played Osha, who begins as a captive of the Stark family, but later surprisingly becomes the protector of Rickon (Art Parkinson) and Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) after they are forced to escape Winterfell.
Osha, like Bronn, was a popular character on Game of Thrones, thanks to both Tena’s acting and the well-written role. Unfortunately, she was mostly absent for two seasons and then unexpectedly killed off by Ramsay Bolton in a brief appearance during season 6.
Although not the most significant problem with the later seasons of Game of Thrones, the death of Osha seemed like a missed opportunity for a compelling character. In John Wick: Chapter 4, actress Natalia Tena plays Katia, who leads the German branch of the Ruska Roma. Crucially, Katia is John Wick’s adopted sister, and despite a long period of not speaking, he has to turn to her for assistance.
Though it’s a relatively small role, Chapter 4 provides Tena with a compelling character to play. It remains to be seen if she’ll be back for a potential fifth John Wick movie.
1. George Georgiou (John Wick: Chapter 4)
George Georgiou, the latest actor from Game of Thrones to join the John Wick series, plays the Elder in Chapter 4. This might have surprised some fans, as Saïd Taghmaoui previously played the same role in Chapter 3. While there’s no official explanation, it’s likely Taghmaoui was replaced due to scheduling conflicts.
Georgiou quickly met his end in the film; after a short exchange with John Wick, he was killed. This act serves as a clear warning to the High Table that John Wick intends to come after them as well.
In Game of Thrones, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers played Razdal mo Eraz, a slave trader and member of the ruling council in Yunkai. She had a confrontational scene with Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) in season 3 when Daenerys demanded the city free all its slaves, and the two characters appeared together again briefly in season 6.
Daenerys managed to overcome those trying to force her to return to Westeros, defeating three of the Wise Masters but choosing to let one live. When Razdal attempted to intimidate a lower-class member of the Wise Masters, he and the other highborn Masters were killed. Beyond his work on Game of Thrones, George Georgiou is also well-known for playing the Elder in John Wick.
