Be warned, this contains spoilers for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2! The new movie, from Blumhouse and Universal, brings back the scary animatronic characters and adds even more of them. The first Five Nights at Freddy’s movie featured eight animatronics, including some of the most popular ones from the video game. This sequel, set in another Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, allows for a much larger cast of creepy characters.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 features a total of 17 animatronic characters. Some are central to the game’s story, while others are hidden details for players to discover. This includes multiple versions of familiar characters like Freddy, Chica, Bonnie, and Foxy, along with both returning and brand new animatronic suits. Here’s a complete list of all the animatronics in the game.
The Marionette
Continuing the story from the end of the first Five Nights at Freddy’s game, the sequel introduces The Marionette, also called The Puppet. This animatronic was a key feature of the 1982 Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria and is where the spirit of Charlotte Emily is bound. She was trapped inside the pizzeria for twenty years before the events of the second game.
The movie also includes smaller versions of The Marionette, which appear as piranhas in the river at the 1982 location and attack anyone who falls in.
The Marionette is a very strong character in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. It can take control of people and use the Toy animatronics to help it break free from the building’s security. The only thing that stops it is a music box created by Henry Emily, Charlotte’s father. Because it possesses Vanessa at the end of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, the Marionette’s story isn’t over yet.
Toy Chica
Toy Chica is a key character in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. This animatronic, originally from the 1982 location, is central to the story because Abby focuses her attention on it. Abby thinks Toy Chica holds the soul of the child from the first game, but it’s actually possessed by Charlotte.
Toy Chica is revealed to be the one who killed Abby’s teacher, Mr. Berg, and she also manipulated a young Schmidt into assisting the animatronics in escaping their original location. However, this version of Toy Chica is eventually destroyed. Compared to later animatronic models, all the ‘Toy’ animatronics have a sleek, plastic appearance instead of the worn, fuzzy texture of the older designs.
Toy Freddy
Toy Freddy appears in the second game with a significant, though smaller, part to play. After the security lockdown is lifted, he roams the town during the FazFest celebration, carrying out Charlotte’s desire to eliminate the parents.
In the film, Freddy attempts to murder a family’s parents while breaking into their home, but Vanessa intervenes and prevents him. Ultimately, the animatronic is destroyed during the movie’s final showdown.
Toy Bonnie
Toy Bonnie, another one of The Marionette’s puppets, escapes from the 1982 location with the intent to harm parents. Just as he’s about to attack a mother and her child, his connection to The Marionette is unexpectedly cut off.
Toy Bonnie reappears at the Schmidt house near the end, but is ultimately broken and unusable by the story’s conclusion.
Mangle
Instead of featuring a complete Toy Foxy animatronic, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 includes Mangle, a broken-down version of the character. The movie explains that the 1982 location deliberately dismantled the animatronic and rebranded it as “Pull-A-Part Foxy” to offer a unique interactive experience for customers.
Years later, Mangle’s damaged condition clearly shows how harsh the transformation process was for the animatronic. After Vanessa leaves the initial location, Mangle is sent out by The Marionette to attack her car. By the end, what’s left of the fox animatronic is even more broken apart.
The First Movie’s Freddy, Chica, Bonnie & Foxy
In Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, it’s unclear what happened to the original Freddy, Chica, Bonnie, and Foxy. They vanish and are thought to be gone for good, but they surprisingly reappear during the game’s final events.
They all reach the Schmidt house and destroy their toy versions. Sadly, this is their final act, as they’ve wandered too far from the original Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, and are now losing the last of their energy. With this, the spirits of the children finally move on.
Balloon Boy
The setting of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 in 1982 lets the game introduce a larger version of the Balloon Boy character. He appeared briefly in the first game, mostly for funny, quick scares. Now, players encounter a full-sized, robotic version of him.
I’m a little disappointed that Balloon Boy isn’t a big part of the new game, but I’m hoping they’ll give him a more important role in Five Nights at Freddy’s 3. Fingers crossed!
Withered Freddy, Chica, Bonnie & Foxy
Besides the smaller, ‘Toy’ versions of the main characters, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 introduces another set of animatronics. Hidden in the building’s basement are the original, very worn-down and broken suits for Freddy, Chica, Bonnie, and Foxy.
In the Five Nights at Freddy’s games, these older, damaged versions of the pizzeria’s characters are called Withered Animatronics. They first appeared in the second game, and the movies are accurately including them as well, staying faithful to the original story.
Things get really scary when Mike’s trying to cut off The Marionette’s power! That’s when Withered Freddy, Chica, Bonnie, and Foxy come after him in the security room. It’s a total nightmare trying to stop the Marionette while they’re attacking!
Circus Baby
Like the other animatronics in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, Circus Baby appears, but her role is unique.
Vanessa wants to deal with the painful experiences caused by William Afton, and she’s suddenly forced to relive a frightening memory involving him at home. While trying to escape, young Vanessa finds herself in a room filled with Afton’s unsettling creations.
The footage briefly shows the complete Circus Baby animatronic. This robot is the primary antagonist in the Sister Location game and, within the game’s story, houses the spirit of William Afton’s daughter, Elizabeth.
The first movie had a hidden reference to Circus Baby, and now that we see a complete version of the animatronic, it suggests the series might revisit that storyline – and could even reveal what happens to Vanessa.
Shadow Bonnie
A quick, easily missed moment in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 happens when the security guard, Mike, sees a shadowy figure resembling Bonnie. While monitoring the cameras for the older, damaged animatronics, he’s briefly startled by this shadowy Bonnie, which vanishes as the lights flicker.
This character was actually Shadow Bonnie, a ghostly version of the animatronic known as RWQFSFASXC within the game. Initially appearing as a hidden surprise in the second game, RWQFSFASXC has since shown up in several other versions. The game Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 includes a brief appearance by Shadow Bonnie, staying true to its origins.
