Noah Hawley talked about the future of Alien: Earth and how the season finale leads into potential future storylines. He revealed in a recent interview that he’s already planned out ideas for additional seasons. He also explained how he managed to fit everything into the season’s limited number of episodes.
Noah Hawley on wanting Alien: Earth Season 2, 3 and more
Noah Hawley, who created the series Alien: Earth, revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that the first season’s ending was intentionally left open to allow for future seasons. He described the show as a test to see if there’s enough public interest to warrant the cost of making additional seasons – specifically, a second and third.
Hawley explained that while the first season’s story is finished, the overall narrative isn’t over. He hinted at future conflict, saying that new forces are arriving and these characters are unaware of the challenges ahead.
The season concluded with Wendy proclaiming, “Now we rule,” a line that showrunner Chris Hawley deliberately made sound optimistic. He explained that while the line feels powerful and hopeful, the events that follow just ten minutes later create a sense of immediate danger and tension. He appreciated this contrast, as it highlighted the rapidly escalating stakes.
Hawley admitted it was difficult to fit the story into eight episodes, as he typically works with ten. He had to carefully divide the focus between the crash location, the world of Neverland, and the storyline involving the spaceship.
Hawley explained that Boy Kavalier’s response to Wendy’s comment showed his rebellious side. He described Boy Kavalier as having deep-seated issues with authority stemming from his relationship with his father, which led him to quickly become an opponent of established systems. Unlike others who wanted to maintain things as they were, Boy Kavalier actively opposed the status quo and could be described as an anarchist.
He also mentioned Kavalier is pleased Wendy is embracing his unconventional ideas. He compared it to Peter Pan wanting to eliminate adults, suggesting it’s exciting to see children in power. Regarding the series’ future, Hawley explained he doesn’t have a planned ending or a set length. He simply wants to continue telling stories with the same unique style as long as the network allows.
He stated that talks about extending his contract are still happening. He hopes to receive a decision within the next two months, so he can decide whether to start looking for a new job or continue in his current role.
