As a huge Marvel fan, I’m always excited to see what they’re cooking up with all the new movies and shows on Disney+. Right now, everyone’s talking about Avengers: Doomsday – it’s supposed to be massive, bringing together a ton of heroes. And get this – the original X-Men crew are finally joining the fun! I’ve been seeing some incredible fan art lately, and someone redesigned Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler with a costume that’s straight out of the comics. It looks amazing!
Details about the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie are scarce, but excitement is building for the massive superhero team-up. The cast list recently revealed that several actors from the X-Men franchise will be returning for this multiversal event. Notably, Alan Cumming will reprise his role as Nightcrawler, a character he last played in the 2003 film X2. Fans are already creating artwork imagining his return – you can see some of it below!

Isn’t it amazing? In the second X-Men movie, Kurt Wagner, played by Cumming, only wore regular clothes, so we never saw his full superhero costume. However, fans are hoping that will change in the next Avengers movie, especially since a gift given at the wrap party for Doomsday hinted at costumes that are more faithful to the comic books. But with the movie still over a year away, we might have to wait a long time to see the host of The Traitors fully dressed as an X-Men character.

As a huge Marvel fan, I’m always looking for the best way to stream all the MCU and X-Men movies and shows, and Disney+ is definitely it! They’ve got a new ad-supported plan starting at $9.99 a month – it’s going up to $11.99 in late 2025, just so you know. If you want to skip the ads, it’s $15.99 a month (going up to $18.99 in 2025), or you can save a bit of money and pay $159.99 upfront for the whole year. I’m seriously considering the annual plan!
Even though we’re still waiting for official images of Alan Cumming reprising his role as Nightcrawler, this fan art is getting fans excited. His initial casting was a bit unexpected, since he only appeared in one X-Men film. However, with his recent popularity and Emmy win for The Traitors, now is a perfect time for his return.

Alan Cumming, known for his role in Romey and Michelle, has been surprisingly open about returning as Nightcrawler, even though Marvel usually keeps things very secret. He hinted at a fight scene with Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards, but later said he might have gotten the details wrong. Cumming also mentioned finishing his part in the movie back in September, so it remains to be seen how much he’ll appear in the next Avengers film.
I’ve been seeing so much discussion about how the X-Men will fit into the Doomsday movie, and it’s really exciting! Most people, myself included, think it’ll connect to that post-credits scene in The Marvels where Monica Rambeau ended up in a universe with Beast, played by Kelsey Grammer. With Grammer already confirmed to be in Doomsday, it just makes sense that’s where the story will begin to tie them all together. It feels like a really clever way to bring the X-Men into the MCU!
Fans will finally get answers when Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on December 18th of next year as part of the 2025 film lineup. With The Russo Brothers returning to direct, excitement is building to see how the story continues.
