Aimee Lou Wood Doubles Down On Calling Out SNL Sketch: ‘I Don’t Regret Saying It’

While South Park is getting a lot of heat right now for its controversial celebrity parodies, Saturday Night Live also does its share of impressions. Usually, the people being spoofed take it well, but sometimes the reactions are more intense. That happened with The White LotusAimee Lou Wood, who posted a video of herself crying after Sarah Sherman impersonated her. This sparked a lot of discussion, with fans and cast members defending her, and others criticizing her for not having a better sense of humor.

The sketch in question drew attention to Wood’s teeth, a feature the actress had previously expressed a desire to downplay. However, SNL did the opposite with its April 12 episode featuring the “White POTUS” sketch. There’s been a lot of discussion since then, not only about the sketch itself, but also about Wood’s alleged disagreement with co-star Walton Goggins. This has led some to speculate whether the actress now wishes she had reacted differently to the sketch, especially considering she may or may not have received an apology. In a recent interview with the BBC about her new movie, Wood stated that she is committed to living a life without regrets:

I stand by what I said because it was a departure from how I normally react – something I often did when I was younger and facing bullying. I now have the option to address the situation, even if it’s uncomfortable, and simply state, ‘I didn’t appreciate that. It was unkind.’

Even after five months, Aimee Lou Wood stands by what she did, explaining it relates to a time before she was famous. Back then, she didn’t have a voice to speak out against those who were bullying her. The public conversation surrounding the situation doesn’t appear to have harmed her career; she later received an Emmy nomination for her role as Chelsea.

Actually, she even received a kind of apology from SNL‘s Sarah Sherman. Sherman explained she was really enthusiastic about performing the sketch and didn’t intend to genuinely upset the other actress. People are hoping the two will work together again someday, likely without any oversized fake teeth being used.

You know, as a big movie fan, I was reading what Wood had to say, and she really stood by her decision. Even with everything that’s happened since, she genuinely believes she did the right thing. She explained it like this:

Regardless of any difficulties that followed, I’m still glad I spoke up and shared my thoughts – it was important for my own growth and personal journey.
