season 2 news has touched down.
Dave Filoni created the popular Disney+ Star Wars series Ahsoka, which debuted in 2023 and stars Rosario Dawson as the main Jedi character. Following a successful first season, a second season has been announced, though official details about when the new episodes will be released are still limited.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant about the finale of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, Dave Filoni shared an update on Ahsoka season 2. He confirmed that the show is still in production and that he’s currently involved in refining the visual effects for the new episodes.
I’m still working on it, and it’s progressing well! We’ve made a lot of progress already. I’m currently editing all the episodes simultaneously and focusing heavily on the visual effects with the team. I’m really proud of everyone’s hard work. There are still some things to finalize and solve, but that’s to be expected.
We’re really looking forward to sharing this with everyone. Unlike last time, we weren’t able to have a proper premiere, so the whole team is thrilled to finally connect with fans and see their reaction.
When asked about when season 2 of Ashoka will be released, Filoni hinted that he does know the timeframe, but isn’t ready to share it yet. He playfully said, “I’m not saying, but I might know.” He explained that everything has its time, and right now, the focus should be on the character Maul.
Crossan noted online speculation that season 2 of Ahsoka might be its last. Filoni didn’t address these rumors directly, but emphasized he does know how the show is intended to conclude.
It’s hard to say what will happen, but I’m confident things are unfolding as they should. I have a clear idea of how the story will end, so I’m not concerned.
It’s always entertaining to see what fans are guessing, and we appreciate their enthusiasm. However, we’re really focused on what’s happening right now with projects like ‘Maul’ and ‘The Mandalorian.’ We’re keeping our attention on the present, which is very exciting for us.
After the exciting end to Ahsoka season 1, filming for season 2 began in the UK in April 2025. Disney+ has since announced it’s “Coming Soon in 2026.” Given that filming started over a year ago, it’s probable the Star Wars series will be back either this summer or fall.
While Andor continues to receive the most praise from critics, Ahsoka has also been generally well-received. It currently has an 85% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, though audience scores are a bit lower, at 64%.
The first season of the show centers on Jedi Knight Dawson and her student, Sabine Wren (played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo), as they work to uncover a danger to the New Republic. Set after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983), the series brings back several characters from the animated Star Wars shows, including the main villain, Grand Admiral Thrawn (played by Lars Mikkelsen).
Okay, so we don’t know a ton about what’s happening in Ahsoka season 2 just yet, but I’m really excited to hear Hayden Christensen is coming back as Anakin Skywalker! He was fantastic in season 1, and it’ll be great to see more of him. Apparently, Admiral Ackbar will be showing up, too, which is a fun surprise. Plus, it sounds like we’ll be seeing even more characters from Star Wars Rebels – that show had such a great cast, so I’m thrilled about that. Hopefully, Ivanna Sakhno, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Eman Esfandi will all be back as well; they were all really strong in the first season.
Dave Filoni is currently promoting the Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord comic, but it looks like news about the Ahsoka series is coming soon. After The Mandalorian and Grogu is released later this month and gets its moment, we can expect more details about the future of Star Wars on Disney+.
