Marvel’s collaboration with Netflix concluded in June 2019 with the final season of *Jessica Jones*. Luckily for fans of those shows, the spirit of that era continues with *Daredevil: Born Again*. Charlie Cox returns as Matt Murdock, and Season 1 brought back Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin and Jon Bernthal as the Punisher from the original *Daredevil* series. Krysten Ritter will also reprise her role as Jessica Jones in Season 2 of *Born Again*. Before the new show arrives, Ritter shared her thoughts on how she felt when *Jessica Jones* ended.
Jessica Ritter, who will appear in the 2025 film *Stone Cold Fox*, recently spoke with *Phase Hero* and Marvel Studios’ Brad Winderbaum about her time playing Jessica Jones. When host Brandon Davis asked if she believed the series was truly finished at the time, she answered:
Yeah, I think so. It was a really emotional experience because the character was so well-developed and interesting. I definitely felt like there were more stories we could have told before the show ended its run with Marvel and Netflix. We were actually starting to plan another season when everything suddenly changed. Luckily, we found out beforehand, which allowed us to create a satisfying and conclusive ending, while still leaving the door open for potential future stories. Other shows didn’t have that luxury, so we were fortunate to have some warning and be able to craft a proper finale.
The first season of *Jessica Jones* debuted in November 2015, following the successful launch of *Daredevil* seven months earlier – marking the beginning of Marvel and Netflix’s collaboration. This partnership ultimately lasted four years, and in February 2019, *Jessica Jones* was cancelled, just months before its third and final season aired. While disappointed the show wasn’t renewed, the showrunner was glad the cast and crew had enough time to wrap up the story properly. Unfortunately, *Luke Cage* and *Iron Fist* weren’t given the same courtesy, leaving their storylines unfinished.

As the final season of *Jessica Jones* wrapped up, it looked like Jessica was finally heading for a fresh start in Mexico. But then, that familiar, unsettling voice of Kilgrave popped into her head, urging her to abandon everyone. Instead, she made the surprising decision to stay put in New York. Now, with her return in Season 2 of *Daredevil: Born Again*, a big question is how much of her past – and everything that happened in *Jessica Jones* – will come into play. We don’t really know what she’s been up to since Season 3, but Krysten Ritter seems genuinely excited to revisit the character, and honestly, I know a lot of fans – myself included – are thrilled to see her back.
During a recent interview, when asked about a potential new season of *Jessica Jones: Born Again*, Brad Winderbaum hinted it could happen “sooner than you think.” This follows a similar pattern to Jon Bernthal’s upcoming *Punisher* special, which is tied to the second season of *Daredevil: Born Again* in March and his role in *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* in July, suggesting plans are underway to focus on Jessica Jones again.
