Horror movies have been incredibly popular lately, and 2025 was another strong year for the genre. Warner Bros. released some truly standout films, including Weapons and Sinners. Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler, has received a lot of awards attention. While some of the movie’s brilliant performances were overlooked at the Golden Globes – much to the disappointment of fans like myself – this year’s Oscar nominations finally recognized the work of actors like Delroy Lindo and Wunmi Mosaku.
While the show Sinners didn’t win in some key categories at the Golden Globes (despite winning others), fans were thrilled when both Delroy Lindo and Wunmi Mosaku received Academy Award nominations. Lindo was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, and Mosaku earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her powerful and moving portrayal of Annie. Overall, it was a very satisfying outcome.
It’s not unusual for the Golden Globes and Oscars to nominate different people – they’re judged by different groups, and a lot comes down to opinion. After the huge success of Sinners, I’m thrilled to see the film’s supporting actors getting some well-deserved recognition. Now we’ll see if Lindo or Mosaku can win an award in March.

You can watch Sinners on HBO Max, with plans starting at $10.99 per month. A basic subscription with ads gives you access to a large library of movies, shows, documentaries, and more. Check out the deal here.
Delroy Lindo charmed audiences as Delta Slim, a harmonica player in the film Sinners, until the story took a dark turn with the arrival of vampires. His character’s brave sacrifice at the end was especially impactful, and many fans are thrilled to see him nominated for an award this year, particularly after he wasn’t recognized for his work in Spike Lee’s Da Five Bloods. At 73, Lindo continues to deliver memorable performances.
Wunmi Mosaku’s character, Annie, was central to the story of Sinners. Her deep sadness over the loss of her child was powerfully felt throughout the film, especially in the heartbreaking final scene. She was also the only one who realized vampires were hiding among them, and she tried to warn everyone about the coming fight. Mosaku’s performance is my favorite part of the movie, and I was thrilled – and felt it was well-deserved – when the Lovecraft Country actress received an Academy Award nomination.

The film Sinners has made Oscar history with an incredible 16 nominations, becoming the most-nominated movie ever. This is a major achievement, considering horror films haven’t traditionally been recognized during awards season. It will be interesting to see how many awards the movie wins, with numerous categories in play – including potential wins for Michael B. Jordan’s performance, Ryan Coogler as Best Director, and the coveted Best Picture. Wunmi Mosaku will be competing against another standout horror performance from Amy Madigan in Weapons.
Find out who wins at the Academy Awards when they broadcast on March 15th as part of the 2026 television season. In the meantime, you can watch the film Sinners now on HBO Max.
